Woodsyla Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Carra had a poor season last year, this was due to a) Agger being injuredb) Skrtel not arriving till half way through the seasonc) Hyppia not having the legs he used to The lad was run into the ground. Carra and Agger will be our first choice centre halves this season. Skrtel and Hyppia will play games and maybe by the end of the season Skrtel may have staked a claim for the first choice but at the moment the best two centre backs we have are Agger and Carra. So all you f***ing formation junkie stop leaving him out. He wont be right back he wont be on the bench he isn't going to stop us pushing forward. He's one of the best defenders in the league and he and Dagger are going to be immense this year. OK ?

Benitez Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 (edited) with Degen injured, and maybe concerns over Finnan's fitness, I reckon there's a good chance he will be right back, for a fair few games, sorry Edited July 29, 2008 by Benitez

Flasher Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 with Degen injurd, and maybe concerns over Finnan's fitness, I reckon there's a good chance he will be right back, for a fair few games, sorry Not while Arbeloa is here he won't. In fact, i'd go as far as to say that Areloa will be our first choice right back for the start of tte season regardless.
Benitez Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Are we selling Arbeloa and Darby ? Yeah, Darby will do it! Who knows Woodsy, stop being so narky Carra will most likely play right back at some point - what's the big deal there? He gets played there cos he's damn good at what he does, and is able to play there, it's testimony to his value as a player. Why get so bent out of shape when it's suggested!
Woodsyla Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 Yeah, Darby will do it! Who knows Woodsy, stop being so narky Carra will most likely play right back at some point - what's the big deal there? He gets played there cos he's damn good at what he does, and is able to play there, it's testimony to his value as a player. Why get so bent out of shape when it's suggested! It's not suggested it's Agger and Skrtel this, Agger and Skrtel that. Skrtel has been here two minutes and Agger has had a season long injury. Carra is top top class and with the purchase of Degen and Dossena we should have no need to shunt him out to RB because Arbeloa is LB and Finnan is injured. On a serious note, would you really have a problem if both Degen and Arbeloa were out and we played Darby against West Brom at home. The only time I could see a reason for playing Carra at RB is against a top 4 side when Arbeloa is injured. I could understand if Rafa wanted to leave Degen out as he does look (intially anyway) a bit suspect defensively.
Chili Palmer Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I don't think many people are writing him off, they do see the need to continue to improve and if by pairing up Skrtel and Agger gives us an improvement then so be it. Carra is and always will be a legend at the club but it is Rafas job to look for that little bit extra every year. yes you can have excuses for carras form last year but tbh i thought he wasn't up to his own standards the year before either, he seems to panick that little bit quicker than he used too.

The season we got to Athens you thought Carra wasn't up to his usual standards ? I don't think Agger and Skrtel WILL give us improvement that is my point. Carra and Agger is a rock solid defensive unit, Skrtel has to prove that he can deliver high quality consistently to break that up. In two years time as Carra starts to slow we will see a natural progression, like we have with Sami, but Carra is 30 FFS.
MFletcher Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Based on last season, it's Skrtel plus another in the defence. Not once did Skrtel have a poor game when he came in. He showed a willingness to bring the ball out from the back, rather than putting his foot through it, was consistent in the tackle and in the air, and marked Drogba out of the game until he had to go off injured in the second leg. Perhaps we should have a thread entitled "stop writing off Skrtel". Agger has been out for a year and will need to bed in again, and if Carra's indifferent form continues for the next few months he'll deserve to be dropped - I doubt it will though.

I have no problem with people defending carra position, hell I do it myself to any non red but on here, a liverpool fans forum, I expect an honest opinion and discussion on pros and cons of players. not just Carras the best defender end of. maybe he is but maybe Agger and Skrtel are the better pair. I don't know, but I can see the possibilities in that pair. I can't speak for anyone else but there is no dis respect aimed toward Carra by suggesting I would like to see that pair given a chance.

Havant and Waterlooville? I thought the pair of centre halves were bobbins at united as well. They let the ball bounce - their goalie put Rooney clean through 3 times. 3! I don't know if that was down to 1 or both.

It was hardly the crisis that prompted one person on this message board to say he looked like a 'cart horse'. Let's not forget that in that game (at United) Carra should have conceded a penalty as well. Unfortunately, Carra was off the boil last year, and was prone to making silly tackles that could have cost us e.g. his lunge against West Ham at Upton Park in the last minute. If a Skrtel/Agger partnership is likely to make us a better side because of their ability to bring the ball out from the back, then so be it. Carra cannot get into the side on reputation alone. Guest PaulMcC Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Carra is our best defender and should start as much games as possible. Especially big games
Ronnie Whelan Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 If you were to look at the last couple of seasons and the amount of starts Carra has had during that period I honestly expect that to be less next season. The future is Agger & Skrtel.

Hodgson for Chelsea Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I know it is exciting to have Agger and Skrtel but Carra has proved himself one of the best defenders there is. Competition for places can only be good. Carra wont lie down and let someone else nick his place that is for damn sure.
Woodsyla Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 Thanks Rafa Have you watched pre season. Every match it's been Carra and Agger replaced by Sami and Skrtel.
Knoxy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Carra and Agger are our 2 best CB's They'll start more often than not
