The new project in work is using JSP (And a variation of an Apache-type server) through to a Unix box running Sybase on a backend.

To reaquaint myself with Java Server Pages and the stuff around it - it's probably going to be a good idea to install a Tomcat server on my home PC - but I have a question - will this affect the security on the PC?

My understanding is that it sets itself up as a localhost - which shouldn't open any ports on the firewall - but is this true and is this standard? Are there options to check if you're still secure - and I suppose that the firewall would object to anything modifying its in/outward bound settings?

Can anyone clarify this?

Thanks.
