didn't want to stick this in the mammoth what are you listening to thread. Deserves its own.

 

Bought this a few weeks back after umming and arring a bit because of the hype around it, but it is fabulous. Echoes of the Beach Boys, The Band, and things altogether more ancient and lost. Reminds me in parts of that shape note singing from the Cold Mountain soundtrack. Glorious record all round. Since the middle of last week I've been listening to it on a twice a day basis, I can't stop playing it.

 

 

 

On a similar theme, the Dodos album, Visiter, from earlier in the year, is cut from the same cloth, though not quite as plaintive, and little more modern sounding.
