Senna marked him out of the game.

He's sh!te.

A lazy flash in the pan. If he was seriously good, why is he 27 already?

Hopefully someone will pay serious money for him and regret it, just not us.

Typical knee jerk nonsense. Torres has hardly looked a tenth of the player he is for us. Does that mean he is sh!te too? Arshavin at least impressed in two games.

Russia in general were awful tonight and as pointed out by MFletcher maybe the weight of a nation on his shoulders got to him.

Ah well, Barca will sign him up. Good for them.

I dont know which posts are more ridiculous? The ones that claimed we should sign him after 2 good games, or this one that claims hes as good as Pennant afte 1 bad game.

Just about apitomises the change-with-the-wind attitude on here at times.

Thought Torres was excellent last night, especially after Villa went off - have seen very little to suggest that the two of them together would be a good option for us as I think it would blunt Torres' effectiveness with no guarantee that Villa would have the impact Torres did.

As for Arshavin, there has been kneejerk both ways about him and it was inevitable that as seeon as he had a s*** game people would start saying he's over-rated.

Fact is though I suspect that most of the people expressing strident views about him really have seen precious little of him over any length of time, save for the odd UEFA cup game last season.

Nail. Head.

Kop205, Torres. Excellent? Last night? Nah mate, he was poor, he has been for most of the tournament tbh, and there would be more admitting it were he not a Liverpool player. It doesn't bother me because I know the Torres for Spain and the Torres for Liverpool are two completely different animals. So i really can't understand why more of us can't admit it.

Torres wasn't poor, he worked his socks off for the team and never gave the russian defence a minute rest all game

Worked hard alright, showed no quality in anything he did though. That's not having a good game.

Arshavin was poor but he also failed to work hard, It could be that the prssure got to him, which is not exactly a good selling point for a big club

to be a great player you need to be able to work hard, even if things aren't going well for you

His game isn't really about working hard, although i think he did try and did put in a decent shift. Which is going to be overshadowed but the overall sh!tness of Russia. Ho hum. This is going to be a futile argument though, with people looking far too much into one performance. For instance, you're now saying that because he didn't do the business last night that means he can't hack the pressure, when all it might be is simply a poor performance, in a side that performed poorly as a team.

Stick him into that Spain side last night and I'm sure we'd all be salivating at the prospect, much like the bizzare reaction to a decent game by Silva, and it was only that. No-one's barely mentioned Villa since the hat-trick. Which tells you all you need to know about the fickle nature of most fans.

You have to love a good nonsensical argument.

I am not making my mind up on yesterday's game, i thin Arshavin is an excellent player, However he has a reputation for being lazy, which we all know Rafa (and most other top managers) wouldn't like.

Also I am always wary about signing players from Russia/ Ukranie, who was the last player to prove a success in england? Kanchalkis?

Shevchavko?

Nah, maybe not.

its funny that Arshavin was s*** but no mention of the real reason why - Senna.. Senna was fkin excellent last night and deserves a large chunk of the credit.. Iniesta and Xavi had their best games of the tournament too.. Fabregas was outstanding when he came on and with Silva getting stronger as the game went on (particularly brilliant second half) plus you add in the performances of Puyol and Ramos and there was f*** all the forward line of the Russians could do..

anyone saying Torres wasn't good as well seriously needs to up their knowledge on football because he ran the f*****s ragged - i've no doubts if he'd have stayed on and kept up that performance he would've scored the more space he got.. if a player doesn't score he hasn't had a good game these days, fkin laughable.. wish the racist would leave him on though - if only to prove me right............ ;)

See, how easy that is.

David Pleat thought he was excellent, and I think he might know a thing or two more about football than you to be honest

Who's he, Is that the guy on ITV who people constantly complain about over his waxing lyrical about anything remotely linked to the Premier League. That David Pleat?

Eamonn Dunphy also said earlier that David Silva was f***ing woeful, and has been crap the whole tournament, and i'm sure he knows a bit more than you about football, would you agree with that?
