Just got back from a quite last minute holiday (and belated honeymoon from December's wedding) to Dubai. I have to say what an incredible place it is, we absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back.

We flew Emirates and stayed in Le Royal Meridien near the Marina, and the service, food and hotel were absolutely faultless. Every meal we went for elsewhere was delicious and the service impeccable; it's like the standards out there are so much higher than anywhere else.

I read up on Dubai as a holiday destination before we went away and apparently there wasn't one single case of travelling sickness there reported by British holidaymakers at all last year; the hygiene is absolutely immaculate everywhere which was definitely a consideration as The Wife is 5 months pregnant.

A couple of days before we went home we took a trip away from all the modern luxuries of Jumeirah and the Marina and a day in the old town surrounding the creek. We took the little boat across the creek to the gold souks when the sun was going down and the prayers were being carried across the sky from the mosques, it was incredibly atmospheric and a great memory for both of us.

As a beach holiday The Meridien gave you everything, and the heat was more tolerable than we expected for around 40-42 Degrees so it was ideal for sunbathing. But the people everywhere we went (largely Indian) and the service really made it a memorable holiday and first time in Dubai.

As I said on the footy forum the develoment there is incredible, and when 'The Palm' development and everything else being built there is finished it is going to be an unparallelled holiday destination. The only drawback is it isn't cheap, but I'd recommend Dubai to anyone looking for a beach holiday with lots more to keep you busy, and as far as I've seen the best service and standards in the world.

I came back wishing more than ever we were owned by DIC. Liverpool shirts took pride of place everywhere in The Emirates Mall, and it was extremely clear they don't do things by halves over there. I was left in no doubt Dubai wants to be the very best in the world, and that DIC and their ruler no doubt would want the same for Liverpool Football Club.
