No - They both went to watch him. Thought he was a good prospect. Had a deal in principle. Then Utd came in and bid three times what we were thinking of paying. Houllier and Thommo thought they were paying over the odds (even if we had the cash to match them, which was not certain) so decided not to match the bid.

If Rafa was to go before the end of the season, Thommo could do a decent job as caretaker. Maybe.
