If as expected we sell Carson this week to Villa, I can't help feeling scared that it only leaves us with Itandje as cover to Pepe.

 

Itandje just doesn't fill me with even an iota of confidence.

 

I do believe it will be a mistake to sell Scott.

Second choice keepers are a rare breed, they have to be good enough for the first team but not ambitious enough to want to leave...

Carson is over-rated. He saved a penalty today against Blackburn, then failed to catch a simple ball that could have led to Villa conceding.

 

He isn't on Pepe's level - and I don't think he ever will be. We're being offered £7.5M for him, which is a very good fee for a player who will always be second choice for us.

 

We can't afford to keep hold of Carson in case Pepe gets injured, so selling him makes sense for all parties.

Carson will not stay to sit on the bench - he wants to be a number 1 which he will never be with Pepe here so this whole thread is an irrelevance IMO.

 

Charlie looks an ok number 2 to me, good for his 6 games per season.

If we can get anywhere near 8-10 million for Carson we'd be crazy not to take it. Hes not as good as Pepe so will probably only play a handful of games if he stays, im sure hes not going to want to stick around to play in the Carling Cup anyway.

 

We have 3 or 4 very promising young keepers on the books David Martin has league experience and one of them could turn into a decent #2

To me it doesn't matter, you can give 10p or £10m for Carson, the end result is that we have nothing to cover Pepe should he get injured or suspended.

I'm sorry, but you aren't sure that Mascherano is worth £17M but you're prepared to let a £10M goalkeeper sit on the bench against his will on the off chance that Pepe actually picks up an injury for the first time in two and a half years?

Seriously Carson is a great shotstopper, but has no positional sense.

 

Itandje is ok for a back up keeper. He's looked assured in some games and not so assured in others.
