Ian Rush's reckons we can take the Besiktas form into the Prem and destroy teams there as we did against Besiktas.

Whilst I love Rushy to bits I'd sooner not hype up our result too much too soon until we actually see the kind of performance in the Prem that we showed Besiktas.

Can't fault his support though

I'd snap your hand off for a nervy 1-0 against Fulham.

Fingers crossed that the Premiership teams we're about to face sign the Besitkas comedy back four in the next week or so. They were as big a part of that 8-0 as our players were.

I'll settle for a few 1-0s for now as well, but let's hope this gives our attacking players some confidence. It should do.

or at least play teams as poor as Besiktas at Anfield until they are?

they're in the CL and they beat us a fortnight ago, they can't be that useless.

I've been frustrated by some of Rafa's team selections (Riise, Sissoko, Pennant and Kuyt have all had more game time than I'd have liked) and by the timing of some of his substitutions but I still think you underestimate what Agger, Torres and particularly Alonso bring to the side.

i don't at all

i'm re-iterating the point i made the other day - we have the players/ability to play good football and win matches without those 3 players. Citing their absence as an excuse for our recent form is/was wrong.

I'd say their absence is one of the contributing factors to our recent form, some poor selections/substitutions from Rafa being another.

If we can cope without them as well as you suggest, then it makes you wonder why we paid top dollar for them in the first place. Why not just bring in players at the same level as their understudies?

how much better is Torres than Crouch? how much better than Mascherano is Alonso? Agger than Hyypia?

If the gap is as big as you seem to be suggesting we might as well give up the moment one of 3 of them gets injured.

I'll say it again, for one final time - our poor form over recent weeks has not been due to the absence of 3 players.

You don't give up, you rely on the squad as best you can while they're out but you acknowledge that the team's level may dip because the replacements aren't of the same quality.

Its not rocket science, Cobs.

Torres' replacement wasn't picked, Mascherano/Gerrard/Sissoko/Lucas can play instead of Alonso and Sami's been fine covering for Agger's absence.

you're feckin right it's not rocket science, Fred.

In total agreement with Cobs on this one. What we saw was not a dip in form but more a CRASH in form. Cant have been the result of 3 players missing when we have decent replacements to bear.

Hopefully we're out of the rot and rafa's philosophy becomes one of treating every game as a must win like we did on Tue. I have absolutely no dount if we play with the fluidity we showcased, we can wallop any team in this league (NOT 8 nil of course ;) )

For me the greatest thing was watching the lads create chances rather than simply capitalising on mistakes which we seemed to do lately.

It's pretty obvious you will miss three of your best and most influential players, regardless of the quality of their replacements. Not saying it's the be all and end all for our average form, but it's had an effect, certainly in our approach and ability to keep the ball.

That's pretty much where I'm at too.

not just, no. but it's a major, possibly the biggest, factor.

Just to reiterate for the hundreth f***ing time - the injuries to Alonso, Torres and Agger were NOT the only reason for our slump. To keep banging the same drum makes you look like a bit of a prick to be honest.
