Another draw at Anfield today. I felt Arsenal played us off the park at times and deserved something from the game. If I'm being really honest, they probably deserved to win it.

Your thoughts?

Are in another thread

Do we not usually have separate threads for the build up/game and then another one afterwards when everyone turns up and abuses the players/manager/physio/bus driver for us not performing well enough?

No we all are selfish b******s and post the same thing in numerous different threads.

I like the thought behind what your doing, but people like me enjoy the sound lights showing up of new posts in our own threads

thought we did well to stifle their natural attacking game and rode our luck when they really should've scored. i'd have been disappointed to lose that.

they're a fantastic team and their class showed, but i think Rafa's tactics were good and by and large the team stuck to the task well.

gutted to see Xabi & Torres hobble out of it. let's hope they're not out of action for long. you could see how much we missed Xabi, he slotted back in like he'd never been away. Torres was off the pace.

i don't think we can scapegoat, as everyone worked hard. Riise was good in our half, but couldn't figure out what to do with the ball in their half.

We were/are utterly totally without quality at the moment, the team knows how to defend but doesnt have the attacking quality to kill a game - we MUST fix this problem or we'll never win the league

We looked light years behind Arsenal out there today.

They have what it takes, we don't.

The lack of pace through our team was very apparent today.

I was scared when they ran at us , its one thing you cant do much

about. We are so slow compared to the a*** in most positions.

Not sure weather im gutted at a point or not to be honest at the mo,

they hit the post twice but i time went on i thought we could have held

out.

The tactics were reminiscent of GH

They're so technically ahead of us it was like watching us play Derby or Bolton

Heskey out wide.

Maybe he just jumbles some names and formations in a hat and thats how he decides what to do for that particular game.

Might have won if Xabi didnt have to go off, Arbeloa in midfield was asking for trouble.

I just don't understand why we played Kuyt and Voronin out wide in a 4-3-3 when we had Babel and Benayoun - two players infinitely more capable of playing such a formation - on the bench. They can both beat their man. Voronin and Kuyt are good, honest, hardworking players but they're not wingers.

And how in the hell was Torres deemed fit to play in that game? It's ridiculous. He was struggling from kick-off.

Mascherano was an absolute star though. In the last few minutes, he was haring back at full speed despite being unable to run properly. A fantastic performance from him.

Really though, Arsenal's quality was so far above ourselves it was staggering. They were passing it around as though they were the home team and we just couldn't get the ball off them. When we did get the ball, we simply gave it back to them.

we were toothless up front and devoid of ideas in the middle of the park.

the inital idea of playing Kuyt, Voronin and Torres was intriguing, but the way they played left Torres isolated all the time. given he was just back from an injury, you would have hoped that he would have support and not be asked to make long runs for hopeful passes, but no, Kuyt and Voronin stayed in place like good little soldiers and we created little.

Gerrard was all over the place as usual and had a decent game, but he needs help. Xabi was off the pace and Mascherano was playing deep to protect a back 4 that could have been troubled by a one legged striker, never mind the pace of the Arsenal forwards. however, we held tham at bay, but their goal was inevitable.

Benayoun for Voronin was a good move, but we never got him the ball often enough. Arbeloa for Alonso was a safe move, but playing him in midfield was a bit baffling, he shud have been at one of the full back spots with Finnan or Riise playing forward.

sorry to bang on about him, but Riise is a worthless bum and does not deserve a seat in thestands never mind a starting spot. he is clueless with the ball, has no pace and is a defensive liability. his clown routine in the box with Benayoun was unbelieveable.

we got what we deserved after a bright start to the game which had us hoping we had turned it around, however, we let Arsenal boss the game and ended up looking tired and ragged near the end. it's a good job we had the goalpost on our side today.

Last few weeks have been like the final season under Houllier.

Really poor stuff, IMO.

Contrast between the two teams on the same pitch really opened my eyes today.

We're full of workers, but couldnt score from open play to save our lives. Arsenal on the other hand...

no it wasn't, we'd never look hast good versus bolton or derby and that's part of the point!

Someone said it reminded them of Houllier; well this happened when Houllier tried to play a more expansive game ie changed from his normal defensive style. At the start of this season we were attacking, trying to play a more aggressive game .... similar situations, similar outcomes

I noticed quite a few good efforts we had from open play.

I think we played quite well. Arsenal didn't do much that we couldn't handle in the final sixth for most of the game, but their passing and possession was great, fair balls to them. (Only got them a point, though, it has to be said.)

It was great having Xabi back even though he was somewhat off the pace in the early stages. It's a mortal blow to us having him breaking his poxy foot again.

You've hit the nail on the head there.

I'm not saying I want to see entertaining, total football every week, but we're just so techincally poor, our style of play is terrible.
