He's only been back one game and he is already publicly stating how he is ready for England again. It seems Roeder isn't quite as happy for him to be playing in "B" international games though. You would think after missing practically two seasons, one because of an injury obtained at the WC he would be a little bit more diplomatic. However, he came right out and said if I am fit for Newcastle I'm fit for England. Things could get ugly up on Tyneside.

Upset the Barcodes and free himself up for his move to Manchester?

No I wouldn't at all. He's all about himself, all of the time.

Don't see anything wrong there. Like he says, if he's fit he's fit. He's apparently been training virtually full tilt for around a month. He lasted 90 minutes no problem on Monday night, and if he does OK in the last 2 league games, i can't think of one reason for him not to play for england.

Do you think he would actually go there?

I reckon he would jump at the chance. Thought he would have went there when he left Madrid.

The sight of him in that red shirt would make me very ill. Unless someone here knows him personally and can add anything to the contrary I think he would go there too. His actions & attitude over the Madrid switch suggest he is out for himself, which is fair enough. Obviously, for him personally, a move away from the barcodes to a professional set-up would be a good one. His displayed his loyalty to Liverpool then and thats certainly not going to stop him from moving to the mancs.

He's only at the barcodes because of his England career, he's hardly going to let them stop him playing for England is he?

He is going after charlton's goalscoring record, he needs as many games as possible, friendlies or not.

Amazes me the ego of the bloke and of some other England players.

What the hell makes them believe that they have a God given right to be in the team?

It is this mentality that has also been nurtured by previous England managers which is the reason England will never progress past the hope level as an international side.

He'd play for the Mancs if it enhanced his international opportunities plus there'd be a media w@nkfest over him and rooney playing together...

If he goes there, I for one.. dont give a flyin feck.

I wonder how he will react if Allardyce does end up at Newcastle. If he thought Ged's teams were too direct......

He won't give a f*ck as long as:

a) He plays every week regardless of form,

b) He gets paid his £125k per week.

If he cared about developing his game, winning trophies or playing at the highest level, he wouldn't be where he is, and he would have stayed their two years, injuries or no injuries.

To be fair, he didn't say it as reported here - he was asked directly and said in reply 'If Steve McClaren picks me and thinks I'm ready I'll do everything I can not to let him or the team down'.

To be honest the poverty of England's striking options, at least as a regular goal threat in the games that matter, has been shown up so starkly in his absense that he's one player who could reasonably expect to walk straight back into the team. With all due respect to Crouchie like.

He said "I feel I am 100 % fit and if I'm fit to play for Newcastle then I'm fit to play for England". I guess you don't see a problem Fyds as you having been paying him 50,000 + a week for two seasons and only getting 11 games out of him. Just maybe he should have let his employer's decide that before talking to the media.

It's part of the shower that the whole thing has become. Lets face it, we're not talking about Zidane here are we, we're talking about an out and out goalscorer with a good if not great international record, who's as likely to be injured for 2008 as he is to be fit. It's not about building a winning culture, not about putting the best combinations together, not about success, it's about ego, celebrity and reputation.

If they're not in the side it's damaging to the image, the reputaton, it's got a*** all to do with form, or peforming, and never will do unless they get in someone strong enough to get on with the job of winning. Contrast it to a proper International team like say the Aussie cricketers, and it's damning.
