Chili Palmer Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 5 live games a season. they will be showing schools under 11's next. (the standard is about the same!)
ManxRed Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Maybe we could get three arl English drunken footballing has-beens to be the pundits and rip the back out of every player and every team they show in as bitter a fashion as possible. That'll learn 'em.
Nerik Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Great idea Manx. Who would be ideal candidates for the job? Gazza, Adams and Merson?
Superjay Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I think its quite an honourable move by sky. That league would have gone within a couple of years. this money will help them. Still s***e though. I thought sky might have been interested in taking the eircom league. Considering the success of doyle, long & hunt at reading.
Gunga Din Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 5 live games a season. they will be showing schools under 11's next. (the standard is about the same!) the norn Irish league? jusus wept.

Cliftonville v LinfieldLinfield v GlentoranGlentoran v CliftonvilleLinfield v PortadownArds v Newry Think we should have a sweep on this...
Ostrich Man Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 its norn iron international matches ye daft f***s.
Gunga Din Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 its norn iron international matches ye daft f***s. this paragraph "Sky has also committed to having live coverage of two Northern Ireland under-21 internationals plus five Carnegie League games every season. " in this article click here would seem to suggest that we could all be exposed to live midweek football from the Newry Showgrounds, althoyugh i suspect that the chances of "Super Sunday" Irish league games are still a long way off. i'm actually surprised that Sky havent made a move to show Eircom league games, as they play during the summer when there is no football on sky
jfogarty Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 i'm actually surprised that Sky havent made a move to show Eircom league games, as they play during the summer when there is no football on sky The Pats v Rovers game last night was as good as any championship match Ive seen this season. It also costs nothing to show a live game as theres no exclusive television agreement with the FAI. The Irish League is dreadful bar Linfield

It also costs nothing to show a live game as theres no exclusive television agreement with the FAI. The Irish League is dreadful bar Linfield its only dreadful because of a lack of funding from the IFA, and has suffered years of neglect. they also are stuck in the dark ages about when the games should be played, and secterianism, which is still rife at the games, has not been stamped out. hopefully, with this funding, the standard of football and facilities will improve

Fingers crossed the northern teams get good funding as Id like to see an All Ireland league
Tones Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 irish league is awful. But hopefully this will help it out and maybe draw a bigger interest in the games.
Chili Palmer Posted April 28, 2007 Author Posted April 28, 2007 its norn iron international matches ye daft f***s. right as usual numb nuts!
Gunga Din Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 irish league is awful. But hopefully this will help it out and maybe draw a bigger interest in the games. its awful if you compare it to professional football that you see on Sky, like the premiership and stuff. i played in the Irish League for a couple of seasons with Newry, and there are a lot of very good players playing in it, but they also have to hold down day jobs too, which means the standard naturally is going to be lower than you are used tos eeing on sky

Ostrich Man Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 never never NEVER!!! those 5 league games just swung the deal
ploveroil Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 its only dreadful because of a lack of funding from the IFA, and has suffered years of neglect. they also are stuck in the dark ages about when the games should be played, and secterianism, which is still rife at the games, has not been stamped out. hopefully, with this funding, the standard of football and facilities will improve Sectarianism rears it's head less and less frequently nowadays, and tends to involve the tag-along gloryhunters when it does. Have to say I've witnessed some cracking games this season, certainly far more entertaining than a large percentage of Premiership games shown on Sky. Agree that the IFA is a joke, and that clubs (bar Linfield with their cosy deal with the IFA) are struggling for funds. A lot of the players are full time now Wayne. From memory Linfield have 5-6, Glentoran have a couple, as do Portadown...that's all folks!
