Was absolutely brilliant - well in there lad. Yes, he got caught in posession a couple of times but he was all over the pitch breaking up attacks. Almost scored a gem too.

Other things that caught my eye - do we have a case for Riise at left mid? He may not be able to carry the ball that well, and probably cant beat too many defenders with his feet - but he is a great outlet and is always a goal threat.

Lastly, how on earth did we not score today? Hitting the cross bar twice was really unlucky, but we really should have put away a couple of our chances - Kuyts attempt really stands out, but I guess it was a great save. The game could well have gone differently - we really need to address our finishing this summer.

red tinted glasses, take them off

what?

seriously man... I really dislike your negativity.

this guy is a clown, I think he might well be a wind up artist. I think his posts should be watched. Liverpool should have be at least 3-0 up at half time, on an unlucky day they should have been 1-0 up... to deny that would be stupid.. but here is some fool saying this.

Once he learns to be a little bit calmer in possession and to get it down and pass it more accurately, he will be one of the top midfielders around. I think that will come over the next season or two.

His work-rate is immense.

What exactly in my post was say especially liverpool biased?

I was actually pointing out that we need to become more clinical.

I'm a little unsure about Momo's technical ability offensively, and this may be the biggest aspect he needs to work on.

Remember when he passed the ball back to Kuyt (who was marginally offside). He almost fell over the ball and thus HAD to play it back to kuyt, rather than taking the defender on.

Momo's job is to break up attacks and keep possession.

He's excellent when he does that and plays simple passes to Xabi or whoever keeping possession. His bad games are when he hurries passes or doesnt look who he's passing to and gives the ball away. He doesn't need more technical ability, he needs more composure.

Sure that is true, but it is naive to suggest that we can have players solely in the situations they are comfortable in.

Especially with the manner in which Momo breaks up play and steals posession high up the pitch - I believe he needs some more ability to hold onto the ball at a spot, even if he can't beat his man.

sorry if I offended you mate, but I still have an opinion of my own and I stick with it. I don't know where you heard/read me saying that we didnt deserve to win but like any journalist would do (no that you're one, I don't know) to get his point/story across he would make up a story to sell papers.

anyways, I think that Sissoko is being massively over hyped by some people on here and to say that he was absolutely brilliant tonight is a bit silly.

Still very one dimensional for me. His booking was naive but did well to control himself after that.

He's a destroyer, disrupter (such a word?), breaker-upper at the mo :) He's still very young - what 22? The other things will come in time.

What Rafa asks him to do, he does very well. Unspectacular maybe, but deadly efficient

Exactly hos job is to disrupt and destroy - which he did excellently tonight.

As for his passing - let's leave that for another day - we are through - let's celebrate that tonight and tomorrow.

I love the guy for his effort, but I can't see the point in constantly winning balls if he's just going to instantly give it away right after with s*** passing.

Agreed, but it won't go away.

He has become very sloppy in possession and his form is a worry. He may be ring-rusty, but if he doesn't improve with a few more games he should be dropped. What was even more worrying was that at times he wasn't even the right side of his man when trying to close him down.

not sure what you're suggesting, a lot of our 'closing down' play was to force barca from playing the ball wide, the defending player doesnt really need to be on the 'right side' of the man.

We just sticky these Momo threads with a note : Momo is wonderful at breaking up play but he needs to improve his passing and shooting. He has youth on his side and that bodes well for the future. Finito. Thread to be reopened on his 27th birthday.

Well like, duh!?

If he keeps playing well at LM, I'm sure people will be calling for him to go back to LB - for the 3rd or 4th time.

You're supposed to be Liverpool biased!

Hah well I was more so referring to the "red tinted glasses"

As for Riise at left mid - I think its a real good debate there. Its been the case throughout his career at liverpool. He doesn't have the dribbling or crossing ability of a left mid, but when he plays there, he is always a goal threat.

He had some 5 shots at goal today, 3 of which nearly went in. Johnny's got a great engine and will bomb down the flank onto longer passes - which he often wins. He provides a decent outlet in this manner and works well with Gerrard on the right.

A lot of ppl here have complained about how we never have enough players attacking crosses -specifically our strikers, because of the amount they track back. Riise is always there making a late run, waiting for the deeper cross. That was why he scored at the Nou Camp, and he almost did it again yesterday.

I disagree in part, I think you need genuine pace and width on one side of the park. Gerrard and Riise doesn't work for me. It did in these two matches but that was because of the situation and who we were playing. I'd rather see work rate and power on one side and guile and creativity on the other e.g. Alves and Riise or Gerrard and <Insert great left winger here>.

P.S. I know Gerrard give so much more than that but he isn't a tricky winger type so in that respect he is similar to Riise

I understand that, the reason I was saying he works well with G, is simply because Gerrard puts in the early crosses with a lot of whip. Also Stevie has the vision to pick out ppl at the far post, that some others dont have.

I agree that we get very narrow with the two of them on the wings.

The lad is a limited footballer but he does have two useful attributes - his ability to get into the box and his shooting - both are best served by him playing in midfield.
