Expect that by next Sunday, the papers will have added this + last week's shenanigans in the Algarve coming up (again) with Rafa being favourite for being the next Real manager :

Madrid deny Capello quit reports

Rumours had circulated that Capello was set to leave Real

Real Madrid have denied Spanish media reports that coach Fabio Capello was planning to leave the club this week.

Spain's Cope radio station said Capello would sit on the bench for Tuesday's Champions League match against Bayern Munich before leaving the club.

"We were very surprised by the reports that appeared in the media," club spokesman Miguel Angel Arroyo said.

"It hardly contributes to the right atmosphere on the eve of such an important match as tomorrow's game."

Arroyo added: "Reports like this only serve to destabilise the club and we'd like to express our surprise and dismay about this type of report.

"In this world you can assure very few things, but I can guarantee that that the board has not received any resignation from Fabio Capello either verbally or in written form."

This has probably surfaced because of the shenanigans in the Algarve. :hmm:

Ballague had a very interesting take on this earlier this evening, basically saying that Capello went in to a board meeting intending to offer his resignation, during which it got ugly and he was basically sacked. A Madrid spokesman hearing some mention of this had gone public, then siad it was ballacks, and he had not offered his resignation (didn't say he hadn't been sacked though!). When asked would capello be in charge for the game at the weekend, he then wouldn't commit ' Who can say what is certain in football?' came the reply.

me thinks the lad is a goner...

They have got three possibilities lined up for next season - Schuster, Victor Fernandez and Mourinho.

If Capello does go - (they may be playing badly but they are third in la Liga and still challenging) - then Michel will take over as caretaker manager until June.

Madrid have to play the local derby against Atletico Madrid next weekend then later go to Sanchez Pijuan (Sevilla) and the Camp Nou

Good results against Bayern and Atletico would keep Capello in the job for at least another fortnight ;)

That's the thing - third and 4 points off the top, still in the champions league with a winnable looking tie. It's hardly disasterous, is it?

I can see them challenging till the death in la Liga.

Nothing much.

Madrid have told Schuster not to accept any offers from the Bundersliga.

Beckenbauer brought his name up last week and Schuster said he´d walk there if he had to, but Rummenigge and Hoeness have meanwhile denied any interest. I´d love to see Schuster there.

Marca is really going at it with Kahn, it seems.
