It's been demolished to make way for a shopping mall. As part of the preparations for the olympics. Now call me simple, but does knocking down a sports stadium to build some shops not seem the wrong way round if you're preparing for the olympics?

Seriously, it does kind of make sense to knock the old stuff down, having built brand new stuff on other sites in the city. (maybe they knocked down an asda elsewhere to makeway for one of the many stunning new stadia)
