anny road Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Gillett & Hick were utterly convincing when they spoke to Parry / Moores...Far more so than DIC who had not gone into much detail as to future plans ON the pitch Moores & Parry will be retained if the bid goes through Rafa will have the funds HE wants in the summer The deal will be announced on Monday / Tuesday They had someone at the match yesterday Nothing really new or mind blowing but thought I'd pass it on

Tosh Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 They had someone at the match yesterday Oh, that's that deal scuppered then
Kopite_Colin Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Good news I sincerely hope there will be new "business brains" on the Board though. God knows, we need some. I still think we will live to regret p*ssing off the 5th richest man in the world with a keen interest in sport and a winning mentality.

I still think we will live to regret p*ssing off the 5th richest man in the world with a keen interest in sport and a winning mentality. whose people took over five weeks to complete the same due dilligence that Gilletts people did inside of 3 days now i dont know the ins and outs of both deals, and i have kept my powder relativley dry on this but the fact that Makthoum is a multi billionaire didnt mean suddenly we will have money running out of our ears.. In prionciple, if the conditions are the same I dont see the differnce between the two bids
Cooger Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Do you really think he completed his due diligence in three days? Doesn't seem likely to me. Even if he did, I don't think it is necessarily a good thing. Both deals seem very similar to me and Parry, Moores etc were right to listen to the second proposal. Maybe it is a blessing that we haven't gone with DIC if they react like this when they don't get something they want.

tomski Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Indeed. I think this is pretty straightforward, the club wouldn't have plumped for the Gillette deal unless it was at least equally as impressive as DIC.I'm actually quite pleased DIC have pulled out, as mentioned previously, I don't think being effectively owned by the leaders of a country in a hugely unstable part of the world is good long-term strategy. There is also a concern about human rights abuses which hasn't gone away. Not to mention the 7 year sell-on scenario. I think the PR job the club had done to sell DIC to the fans had blinded some of us to these drawbacks. In the cold sober light of day DIC doesn't seem such an attractive option - which is obviously what the board thought too. This is pure conjecture on my part but it's possible that An Aswari being a fan - sold the idea to the prince who was never really that interested or convinced, as soon as a complication arose he pulled out. Just imagine what might have happened if DIC had taken us over and after a couple of years the prince had decided to do the same? Lucky escape I'd say.
Tones Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 yet a lot of fans want to hang Moores and Parry for taking this better offer???
jon_hall Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 yet a lot of fans want to hang Moores and Parry for taking this better offer??? Aye but they probably read the likes of the mirror and take it as gospel.
tomski Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 We'll probably never know the inns and outs of what happened. I'm just glad that we're not owned by a country surrounded by some of the most unstable states on the planet which is constitutionally anti-semitic (try getting into Dubai if you're jewish) and has a highly dubious human rights record.
Guest Cardie Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Aye but they probably read the likes of the mirror and take it as gospel. As opposed to the Times passing on a briefing from two groups on a big charm offensive.

anny road Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 As opposed to the Times passing on a briefing from two groups on a big charm offensive. tbf the Times havnt run it
Guest Cardie Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Whether they do or not I'd be cautious about anything I hear about any potential bidder. It's only 7 days ago we were being told about the great DIC and how they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. That's all changed now and we're told Hicks and Gillett are the best. It's all spin and PR, I want to see them do it not try and diffuse the situation with big promises.
jon_hall Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 As opposed to the Times passing on a briefing from two groups on a big charm offensive. I was referring to people reading s**** in papers and believing it. Like the Sun and Hillsborough etc.

If they genuinely want to reach out to the supporters and reassure them then do it directly.
tomski Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 They, or the club, should be bright enough to realise that the last thing to try when trying to get supporters on side is to go through the press. If they genuinely want to reach out to the supporters and reassure them then do it directly. I applaud the sentiment, but how are they going to do this effectively without using the press. The club have marched us up to the top of the hill with DIC, they are now marching us back down again with Gillette, they've made a rod for theirown backs, but such is the complexity of media management these days. In the absense of anything more concrete I'm trusting the board on this one.

fyds Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 keeping ethnicity, religion and race out of it DIC do seem to be hotheads which is not good for the club IMHOI think DIC are a thoroughly professional, very well motivated bunch - it's the man behind them who this week appears to have been shown as a hothead with little regard for 'professionalism' in terms of the actual rules of business. He could ruin them and 'brand Dubai' with such behaviour if he's not careful. The Yanks in general still see the Times as the great british paper of record, so it would make sense for them to have a contact there who can be briefed. All sounds very positive so far. Fingers crossed.
