I heard that we tried to get hold of him sometime last year but he wasn't ready to return. Now he is, so someone please phone him up and offer him a job at LFC instantly....

McAllister ready for return

Gary McAllister believes he is ready for a return to management.

The former Coventry boss has been linked with the vacant role of Scotland manager after Walter Smith's departure.

McAllister, 42, resigned as Sky Blues manager in 2004 to care for his wife, who last year lost her battle with cancer.

However he is keen to work again and said in the Daily Express: "I wanted to get through the Christmas and New Year period before I thought too much about getting back into the game again.

"Now I have done that and I feel I'm ready to return."

Former midfielder McAllister, who won 57 caps for Scotland, admits he has been impressed by the team assembled by Smith.

"He was good enough to involve me with the Scotland squad and it was an experience I really enjoyed," said McAllister. "There is a great camaraderie in the present squad."

He'd be a great coach, I would love to see him at Anfield on our bench sitting alongside Rafa and Paco.

He was offered the reserve manager role but couldn't take it because he didn't want to move his kids back up so soon after his wife's death.

There was talk of him coming back as a coach a bit more recently too IIRC

Yeh remember that. I wonder if he's angling for the Scotland job ? Where does he live ?

Doubt it matters if he's going for a National job (Although if you're asking as a general question I still dont know, maybe the midlands still).

Whatever he does or where ever it is, I hope he's happy.

Midlands somewhere, from his time at Coventry.

Someone on RAWK reckons it's somewhere North West of Leicester, who he also used to play for, so still midlands, but within reasonable reach of Leicester, Coverntry, us and possibly even his days at Leeds.

Would love to see him at Liverpool, but far more importantly I would love to see him and his kids happy.

He's a great man and I'm still gutted for him.

Is the right answer - always had plenty of time for the fans.

Not from me. Mind you, it's not like there's any devastating competition, is there?

Lived in Bowdon when he played for us - his lad was in the same class as Dav's youngest at Hale Prep.

Moved back to the midlands when he left for Coventry.
