Lyon can be backed at about 10/1 to win the European Cup. I've seen worse value

Was thinking about this. Only they and Inter look to have their league's sown up (and Inter may still come under some pressure) and so will be able to rest players around the big European games that remain.

Lyon winning the french league was as likely as Friday coming after Thursday.

They won it the last 5 years. Have more money than most of other french teams added together. They are the French Chelsea.

Look at his predecesor won 5 times with lyon but cannot manage 6 months at Rangers.

Hardly a tough job....

I don't see Lyon winning the European Cup, though I've been wrong before.

By that definition the Scottish Premier league is better quality than the French Ligue 1.

his predecessor won it 3 times. not five.

Personally, I'd say staying at the top is one of the hardest things in football. There is a reason no one has ever won it five times in a row before Lyon did. Lots of people had the knives out in anticipation of him failing when he took the job. He took over an excellent squad but he has had to replace several key players since taking over and has actually managed to improve them to boot .

It's not as straightforward a job as you make it appear.

I've heard and read hack using the fact Gerard is continuing the success as evidence that Le Guen is some kind of fraud. I put it in with this Eriksson thing as well, who although lost his perspective up Becky's a*** in his last job is nowhere near the incompetent he's painted at present.

Fair balls to Gerard but every one of his major rivals are in turmoil.

You can only beat what's in front of you, including Alain Perrin's Sochuax or Toulouse (oops).

Lyon won't win the Eurpean Cup this season.

got to love OL. Houllier has done a great job there though it clearly isnt as difficult or as pressured as the premiership

i dont see why they couldnt win the champions league they have some fantastic players- malouda abidal cris. id love to draw them really cheap tickets in lyon :)

15 points clear at the top of the table.

Way to go Ged :applause:

Brilliant mockering mate

They havent won since, losing 3 out of 4 league games with defeats to Toulouse, Bordeaux and Troyes and got knocked out of the Cup aswell. Even Steve H couldnt inflict this damage.

Still 11 clear though to be fair.
