First it was a bust up now it's a pi$$ up, then it'll be something else. The lad who told you might be extremely honest and respectable but what about the person who told him or the person that told the person that told him? Just for you Anny, thought your blood pressure would like this piece from Dave U.

No Bellamy Bust Up

Craig Bellamy was not dropped for the derby because of any bust-up with Rafa Benitez or any of his team-mates. Rumours have been doing the rounds all over Merseyside (and the internet) since Bellamy was omitted from the squad which lost at Woodison on Saturday, presumably spread by mischief making Evertonians or unsrupulous website owners. There were similar rumours around town about Robbie Fowler when he was left out of the squad for West Ham the other week, and it’s something we are going to have to get used to if Rafa is to persevere with his rotation of players.

Bellamy was left out with the game in Holland against PSV in mind, that’s all there was to it. Barring any late injury or dramatic change of heart by Benitez, Bellamy will almost certainly start the game in Eindhoven alongside Dirk Kuyt. Sadly it’s inevitable that the muck rakers will attempt to stir up trouble as Bellamy is a player with ‘previous’. The first time he was left out of a Liverpool squad, this was always going to happen. The fact it was a derby game must have had them rubbing their hands together with glee. There was no bust up though, no matter what some would have you believe.

From what I hear, Craig Bellamy has settled in very well at Anfield and is very popular with his team-mates, despite moaning as much in training sessions as he does during games!

i agree...i think it is probably crap...but it shouldnt stop me posting it.....

Additionally Crouch and Fowler were starters because Robbie a) was technically the freshest striker and b) has derby pedigree, and Crouch was on a hot scoring streak.

Using the freshest players makes sense but it should not come at the expense of a balance side - particularly in tough away fixtures.

Bellamy had been given the weekend off, sure in a perfect world all footballers would be teetotal but a drink 6 days before a game isn't so bad surely?

Agree with David re the logic in resting him, he's also suffered from knee pains after playing which means that 3 games in a week is asking too much of him. Better to rest him and keep him fit for the rest of the season, as long as the replacements do their job that is. It's a pity Flo didn't work out as his pace would've made a good backup for Bellamy.

I don't think it's rocket science why Bellamy was left out. Rafa would have seen Bellamy's pace as more important against sides like PSV and Chelsea, who will come onto us and leave more space behind, than against Everton, who defend deeper. He had to bear in mind that Bellamy had played twice in the week and couldn't be expected to play the following 3 games for us.

So why wasn't he on the bench ? Because you only get 4 outfield subs. Given the gamble on Carra's fitness Agger had to be on the bench. Aurelio at left back was also a gamble in a derby so Riise was needed as back up. Riise could also offer an option in left midfield. One winger/midfielder had to be on the bench, leaving one striker position, which rightly went to Kuyt.

I think leaving Bellamy out proved a mistake, but it had a tactical logic to it.

Spot on.

Whatever Bellamy does, people will look to unsettle him.

Because our squad is a lot better/bigger this season - we have to leave players out.

That's why I'm dismissing this vague rumour... ]

He'll score tonight anyway, Kuyt'll grab a couple... The rumours will die down again.

I think he'll be our number one striker for all the really important games anyway.

Expect to see him and Kuyt forge our number one partnership

Its absolute b******s, Bellamy was told he was being left out on Friday and if it pissed him off or not, he didn't show it. He wished all the lads the best of luck and got on with it. So far his attitude has been spot on.

So do you think my assessment was a reasonable shout then ? :D

good to hear from a reliable source. Though I never believed he would have kicked off anyway. Can see him getting a start tonight with Kuyt.

Good stuff.

He'll be a big success here, i've no doubts.

He knows how it works - he'll start tonight and Sunday in all probability.
