Nebraska Red Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) depending on the time the game is on TV over here, you will find that almost all of the "British/Irish" sports bars and pubs will show the game. if you pick up a copy of the locally printed English paper, they will show details of where to go. any bar/food place advertising "British breakfast/Sunday dinner" will have the game as well. RP Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 The Cricketers Arms is the place to go - I watched the derby game in there last Christmas/New Year. Decent enough pub, foods ok and it was full of Reds. Probably be a few mancs in there as well, I guess but you can always stab them in the head with a broken pint glass.
Barnesy_10 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I watched the Champions League Final in 'Murphy's Arms'... it was just over the road from our hotel.... really good atmosphere, full of reds and one evertonian! Whatever you do, don't go to 'Chuck E Cheese' for food before hand.. We popped to the Cricketers Arms the day before to check it out and it looked like it would be a good place too, but it was a bus ride away and we couldn't be arsed.

One of the lads in work reckons this could possibly be closed down. Been there myself to watch the derby a couple of years ago, but thought the food was s**** proper greasy spoon pub (if there's such a thing)

I've been to the Cricketers more than once, but only realised in April this year how bloody expensive it is. The landlord's an ex-pat Chav supporter and he charges London West End prices for his beer, which is way more than other bars in the area. Kissimee is just down the road and there are a number of British pubs there that show all the games, the Rovers Return (really!) and the Fox and Hounds next door being very reliable.
oakie bob Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 do they still rip you off going into the crickters arms by charging you on match days
RP Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 do they still rip you off going into the crickters arms by charging you on match days No, they didn't for the derby.

RP Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 My memory may be a little rose-tinted due to the result and also the family sat next to us - there was a fella and his old man (both blues) and their 5 or 6 year old daughter (also a blue). The Missus was red though and at the end she stood up (possibly a bit p***ed) and shouted at them "f***in have that you sad f***in blue b*stads". Her family stood up and walked out, she went to the bar and ordered another drink.

Poolfrog Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 do they still rip you off going into the crickters arms by charging you on match days Yes they do. It was either $20 or $25 for the cup final, but we had moved on to Key West for the day of the game and watched it in a fake Irish bar there (about 50 Liverpool fans and 2 West Ham fans). They also charged, but at least the gaffer laid on a traditional British meal of curry, rice and chips for part of the admission to make us all feel at home! In fairness, most US bars seem to have a cover charge when there's live footie on. I pay it begrudgingly when I'm over there to watch us (which is quite often), but remember coughing up $12 in one of the Kissimmee pubs to watch a Man U - Arsenal Charity Shield game a few years ago (a 9 am KO as well!) because my girlfriend is an Arsenal fan - anything to keep the peace. Boring 0-0 draw inevitably.
SkippyjonJones Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Last year most games were on Fox Soccer channel and were free ? most bars would not charge for watching them. However one game each Saturday and the 4pm uk KO timed game on the Sunday were only shown on a PPV channel which costs $20 for a residential viewer and a hell of a lot more for Pubs. They were forced to charge for games on a cover charge basis and often an employee of the ppv channel would turn up at pubs to collect ? or even just check the numbers ? they do the same for the six nations Rugby as well. This year there will be no PPV for Premiership games ? maybe for cup matches (except the champions league). Any pub charging for it should be given a good shoeing.
Guest kaip Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Stay away from the cricketers fella.............they will charge you 10 bucks to get in and only have 2 tv`s.............go to the george and dragon by wet n wild......thank me when you get back

Its the other side of Wet n Wild to where we were but still handy. The good thing about Murphys Arms was that they sold all British crisps.... Pickled Onion monster munch!! Though they charged a fortune for them.
Murphman Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 If you're in a Villa on US27 (running south of us192 - Irlo Bronson) then there are a couple of pubs either side of the junction of US27/I4 (jct55). One's called Beefy O'Grady's and the other's called The Pub. O'Grady's alright but it's in Davenport. If you're in Kissimmee on the 192 near Ponciana Boulevard/Medieval times then Harry Ramsbotham's is sh*t hot. Seriously, free to get in and the food is sound too.
