So I lietened to R5. But the commentators were pretty unanimous in asmuch as we paggered SheffU. But...

This should have been first blood to the Blades. Back in the Premiership after a 12-year absence, Sheffield United were deservedly leading Liverpool and looking capable of hanging on to their advantage, until a generously awarded 68th-minute penalty allowed the visitors to escape with a face-saving point.

Steven Gerrard, once again performing his one-man rescue act, played a one-two with Robbie Fowler and accelerated into the area, losing his balance in vaulting Chris Morgan's rash tackle and falling to the floor as Paddy Kenny collected what turned out to be a tame shot.

That's what most people in the stadium saw in any case. Referee Rob Styles saw it differently and after waiting until Kenny had made the save blew his whistle and pointed to the spot. 'He's given advantage and then he's given a penalty,' Neil Warnock complained. 'I don't think it was a foul anyway.'

Now - if someone lunges in at you causing you to lose balance in avoiding a broken ankle, it CAN still be deemed a foul

I've just read on! It gets better!

television replays showing negligible contact between Morgan and Gerrard

in other words there WAS contact, no?

There was clear contact on what was at that moment in time his standing leg which threw Stevie's balance. They would do better to debate why Morgan as the last man wasn't red carded.

We had what, 14 corners to their 0? Sami hit the post, Bellamy was wrongly given offside twice when through and Robbie and Speedy slipped on their grassy pitch when in good positions and Aurelio nearly got in with a free kick.

They barely threatened but blustered a lot in the first half, and that's pretty much it apart from one moment of poor defensive work on our part.

It was a good call. If it had happened at the halfway line it would have been called a foul 99 times out of 100, and no-one would have argued. The fact it was in the box shouldn't make a difference.
