maccabi haifa planned to attack from the center and not from the wings.as a haifa fan i was surprised, because haifa`s center is offensivly (sp) week, but they have very good wings.but when they scored i realised why...

i noticed that in a lot of matches (espescialy against teams with 1 striker) when an opposite striker comes deep, hyypia follows him.that leaves a hole in the center of our defance.if the that striker manages to turn or to make a 1-2 we have a big problem as hyypia is WAY too slow to track back.

haifa dont have fast attackers that played last night, and still managed to hurt us.bigger teams with better and faster players will celebrate on this.

remember this post,as we are going to cry this season because of this.

I'm crying already.

Their goal had nothing to do with Hyypia, but everything to do with Xabi giving up tracking the runner and Riise failing to cover from the left hand side.

Is right, Sami ended up having to cover for the mistakes of two players -Riise and Xabi

Originally thought Xabi was at fault but having seen the replays really do think he had to go and challenge the man on the ball. He was possibly at fault for not doing so slightly quicker but that's all imo. Riise on the other hand I completely agree with you on.

It's nothing new, we've been slow at the back for years and it's why we've signed Agger and Paletta.

I don't think we signed Agger for his pace!

The lad makes a fair point about Sami getting drawn into the striker. It's happened a few times, mainly Sami wins the tackle but at times he does get caught and it happened last night. I've noticed it before and I noticed it last night. No doubt some wit will ask me to list examples but I don't remember, I just know it happens but I'm not bothered as all defenders have weaknesses.

riise was f***ing awful last night.

the whole team was generally rusty, if we can get that out of our system before the qualifier and the start of the season hopefully we'll be ok.

cost us 10 points last season this early malaise did.

Although at least last season it wasn't really the defence that was rusty. Probably cos Rafa had put huge emphasis on it during preseason (allegedly).

Our whole left side was awful, Zenden hardly tracked back and lost us the ball constantly. Riise is a good player, but out of our back four is the weak link.

I think Agger will get quite a bit of playing time this season

Chelsea have tried to do this to us as well. Draw Hyypia out and play a quick one two.
