I'd say its just to clear Kewell's name. It seemed like when the diagnosis was gout, that Kewell and the Australian officials were very reluctant to release the information. Think it's probably just as simple as he was embarrassed and wanted the misdiagnosis cleared up.

The brother had septic arthritis in his knee when we were youngsters. If it is not caught in time you can actually lose your limb.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that he wasn't going to be able to go straight back into training after the World Cup, given his groin problems etc. This will guarantee a layoff, which I think will allow him to recover from the rest of his wear and tear. It's not a coincidence imo he performed so well last year after the hernia.

 

And six weeks isn't so long, aren't all the World Cup players going on three week holidays now?

 

Hopefully having Gonzalez in the team will allow us to use Harry sparingly short term (allowing him to recover fully), or possibly longer (if this injury plague is irreversible).

Kewell to miss start of season

Australian international Harry Kewell will miss the start of the Premier League season after foot surgery, his club Liverpool said.

 

"Harry is currently undergoing treatment in hospital following a surgical procedure," the club said on their Web site after reports that the forward had been suffering from gout.

 

"He is expected to make a complete recovery and should be able to resume training in approximately six weeks' time."

 

FA Cup winners Liverpool kick off the season with the Community Shield against champions Chelsea in Cardiff on Aug. 13 before their first premier league match at promoted Sheffield United on Aug. 19.

 

Kewell was man of the match in Australia's 2-2 draw with Croatia in Germany last month that took his team into the second round of the World Cup for the first time.

 

He then missed Australia's subsequent defeat to Italy. Team mates said he had been suffering from gout.
