It'd be a bit surprising considering we have Agger and Palletta, he looks like a class act though, was brilliant against us.

Reds back in for Benfica ace

Liverpool are reported to have rekindled their interest in giant Benfica defender Luisao.

The Reds have been monitoring the Brazilian international for some time and even submitted an offer for him - understood to have been around ?10 million (£6 million) - last summer.

They were unsuccessful at that time and subsequently went on to purchase Daniel Agger in January.

However, with the young Dane still to fully adapt to the rigours of life at Anfield, boss Rafa Benitez is looking to further strengthen his defence and is ready to move for Luisao again.

The imposing centre half will have done his stock at Anfield no harm with a couple of excellent displays against The Reds as Benfica knocked them out of this season's UEFA Champions League - including the winning goal in the first leg in Portugal.

Benitez is prepared to raise his already substantial offer for the player, but Benfica are understood to be very reticent to sell.

However, the player has hinted he would be interested in a move to the Premiership outfit, stating: "Everything depends on Benfica, but it is logical that I want to progress in the world of football."

You missed it man, special special gig. One of the best I've ever been to, three encores. They had a lad from the audience up on the stage rapping "as Gaeilge" and everything.

I reckon Sky put their journo's names through one of those internet name changer things like "my porn name" except their one is "my foreign journo name"

sounds like bull.

Either that, or Rafa really does see Agger as a striker.

or he's going to play 3 at the back for quiet a few games next season. 3 from (carragher, Luisao, Agger and Hyypia and possibly Paletta if he doesn't go on loan).

I think that's a possibility anyway if we do buy someone like Alves. Still, with Sami, carra, Agger and Palletta we should be well equipped for that without having to add another defender to the list.

Agger apparently was looking miserable on the bus yesterday and didn't join the rest of the team on the lap of honour. Wonder if he could be a shock exit this summer?

The more i watched Sami this season the more I think it will be incredibly difficult to replace his commandiong presence at the back even if he's getting a bit slower. For seasons now, we've become used to other teams getting nothing out of playing long ball football against us. Luisao coukld bea good replacement given his size and his reading of the game. But do we need him at this moment in time? I'm interested to see what happens to Palletta in the close season, and also whether Agger has a future. It must surely be premature to think that we're considering him to be not ggodd enough after the long chase and wait to get him here in the first place. The idea of us playing 3-5-2 is interesting, but I would prefer for us to have out and out wingers rather than attacking full backs and an extra centre back.

Can't believe there's people wondering whether Agger has a future. Dear god, what a bunch of hysterical queens.

Rafa told us in January that he was being bought as cover. Did they want Agger to come in and straight away replace an in-form Sami in a watertight, well drilled defence?

I'm sure Rafa is just working with him for the time being, getting him used to the system, like he had to do with Jamie and Sami.

I fully expect him to play a much bigger role next season - he's a class act. And there's no way Sami can play that many games again.

They're questioning whether he'll be ready to take over in the next year or two. If not, we'll have to bring in someone to replace Sami.

If you are questioning that now, you wont have paid £6m on a whim that he might make a player one day, by the last year of his contract.

Hyypia and Hamann need to stay another year in my eyes. We need that class to drag us through the bedding in period. However great everyone thinks Carra is it's Hyypia that makes us tick at the back. We need both of them for at least another year. I can't see what financial gain we'd get from letting some one like Hyypia leave right now unless he really wanted to go which is rubbish as I'm sure he sees next year as the year he could win the league meaning him Gerrard Carra and Hamann have won everything possible in England. How many players in recent history could claim the League cup x 2 the FA cup x 2 the UEFA cup and the champ League as well as super cups and charity shields!!! He's got the cash so I'm hoping he want's the glory.

I hope both stay as they are complete rocks for us.

In the next year or two. Surely not now. Sami still has a season or two left at the highest level.
