Out of the two, I think Masch is the one that needs to develop, he needs to become more 'alonso-like' in his passing decisons. Granted not many player have the ability or range of an onform xabi (you could argue that xabi has been off form for 18 months, compared to his first season - another story!) But even an 'off form' xabi dictates the pace of the play , and is always available to recieve the ball form defenders and midfielders alike. I'd compare Xabi to a 'water carrier with bells and whistles', he carries the 'water' but also comes up with a few '60 yard sepcials'. Masch has time and ability one his side. One thing ive noticed with mashc, is that if his first 2 or 3 passes go astray, then his passing remains poor for most of the game, probably a confidence thing.

I reckon 15 goals plus is a good return , but given his high expectations is 20 goals too much to hope for this season? I believe if Stevie gets 20, and El Nino weighs in with 25 plus , then we could be knocking on the door.

Arbeloa can play left back , but he is not a natural left back. Ive been saying this for months.................. Ive analysed him playing at left back in great detail. He gets caught out due to being right footed at least one or two time per game. Usually he just gets away with it and nobody really notices. He continually tackles with the 'wrong foot' when playing left back and his positional play especially in the air is woeful at left back. Not due to lack of ability but due to been predominantley right footed........too the extent that hes somtimes a liability at let aback....... For me he should play right back or not at all, barring injury crisis. At right back I think on current form hes on par if not better than Steve Finaggen
