I think they’ve put the rationale in his creativity replacing Trent and eventually Salah without thinking about the logistics of how it would work this season. We lose a lot without Dom in that position (although he’ll always look better against teams that try to play out from the back like today)

Agree as good as they are defensively they could crumble with any sort of pressure I think playing Real and City will suit us (think we struggle more against long ball/counter teams with low blocks) and hopefully we build some confidence before the big one against Forest

The thing about this is it seemed obvious that Dom in the 10 was a big reason we won the league last season. When he didn’t play you really noticed it. So you just presumed there was a masterplan with Wirtz coming in that would preserve Dom’s role in the team but doesn’t look like there was.

Robbo is a lot better in possession in build up which is important given we’ve lost Trent Let Kerkez phase in from the bench this season

As bad as we’ve been we’re only -3 points when compared with last season’s equivalent fixtures. If we beat City and Forest we’re back to 0

Helps that Villa aren’t playing hoof ball but they are good on the counter so are a threat. Feels more like a last season performance, not scintillating but enough to win (hopefully). Think Robbo at LB and Dom in the 10 helps us

I don’t know, we’ve won the league twice since 1990 and he brought us one of them. He will get the ‘Klopp’s squad’ thing thrown at him but he was pointedly brought in as ‘head coach’ not ‘manager’ and got a lot of things right and for a large part of the season the same squad of players looked better than the season before. I’m ready to back him for a lot longer, he’s clearly a very good manager even though he’s making some mistakes. As soon as he came in he made us a lot tighter at the back and we moved away from the basketball games of the season before so not sure why he’s taken us back there. Partly may be the way teams play against us now but some of the segments of play are very 22-23.

Last time we lost a Carabao game that wasn’t a final was nearly 3 years ago, City away December 2022 after the World Cup.
