  1. The fact that we already receive much of this income and it's catered for? The fact that the extra money won't come in until 2007-2010? And it's probably worth about 10m a year than we get now so isn't that big a deal?
  2. lad posted the same on RAOTL last night along the lines of contract would be signed today. Good news for all the Fowlerites
  3. Stiles was the midfield enforcer employed to run around kicking the opposition's best player. Or a midfield ball winner if you're being kind. Cohen and Wilson were the fullbacks in 66. Stiles did debut as a fullback at the Mancs but was swiftly shifted forward into midfield.
  4. Not when he's a midfielder
  5. you're banned ....
  6. Alan Edge's stuff was never s**** - it was just some feel the need to be a "heckler". Personally I hate hecklers and appreciate comedy clubs who throw the b******s out. Much of the criticism with Alan wasn't about the quantity of the articles but the style and became a very cliquey in-joke which carried on years after his style had changed (as it would with any new writer as they develop). It became very personal and at times just shy of a witch-hunt, something Paul T has also had to put up with. As I said earlier in the thread I know plenty of people who can't be arsed anymore as they've come to the conclusion "why give the c**** the satisfaction".

  8. No surprise to see one of the chief culprits chime in

    Pennant

yep it was on glory-glory.net: "Just had the pleasure of meeting Jermaine & ex-arsenal Pennant at the press launch for a new tv show beeng shown on Channel U called Ballers. Basically is a Sky Andrews co-production focusing on footy, women and pro evo. Anyhow met JD and seemed like a nice guy signed my business card for me and so did Pennant who was actualy a nice bloke. So I'm off to get a frame and will press a spurs shirt with his number and get it framed. JD is looking forward to the WC and is quietly confident of playing some football. Pennant wants to go to Liverpool. 2 mill All in all a nice lunch and some nice chicken wings !!!" and "1/ To be honest only spoke to JD for a minute, said are you enjoying it at spurs and he said it's been a great season ... felt he did not want to be drawn on the question. Said a bit about the WC then Sky Andrews took him away and I just said hope you get one aganst the Hammers and he laughed and said so do I mate! 2/ It was in the Sports Cafe and they had a spread layed on 3/ Pennant stayed around a bit longer - as I said nice guy. Talked a bit about Liverpool, said it's obviously not the nicest atmosphere at St Andrews and, basically indicated he wants to leave with Liverpool being touted as the club he is going to 2mill. He then went off and played pro-evo on the big screen!"
  10. Not initially as the funds were going to come from his private family fortune.
  11. The source of the money was never clear - at one stage it was from Thaksin's personal fortune, then Government funds, then the public lottery then the head of GMM Grammy, Paiboon Damrongchaitham. All the while LFC were desperately reversing out of the situation with as much tact as possible in an attempt not to insult the huge fanbase in S.E. Asia - we were clearly kiboshed at that first meeting which was meant to be a private informal affair.
  12. He doesn't get paid.
  13. Not really. These are the final drawings after planning permission etc and you wouldn't choose the interiors of the corporate facilities etc at concept stage as fashions change so much.
  14. I think you miss the point entirely. None of them get paid, all of them do it out of love for the club and they all appreciate debate. It's just the pathetic pettiness of much of the criticism which annoys them, and generally from people who know less, have seen less and couldn't string together two sentences themselves.
  15. There was a time when many Reds wrote articles on the club/players for websites and fanzines, but that supply has dried up. Most got fed up with petty sniping.
  16. It's made by Zig Zag productions http://www.zigzag.uk.com/ contact details: http://www.zigzag.uk.com/location.aspx
  17. taken from RAWK: In tonights Echo (page 10) Paddy Shennan has talked about a new TV series which will look into the 'murky world of football hooliganism', the series is called 'The Real Football Factories' which will begin to air on Bravo on May 11th- there is 1 about the North West clubs (Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Man City and Burnley) on the 18th May. Now even though the piece is just talking about the apparent hooliganism in todays game and has a little interview with the host Danny Dyer (he was the main character in the Football Factory film and was also in The Business and Human Traffic), Shennan has put in a bit regarding the North West episode which he had seen a rough-cut of: ......Dyer "If you find the series glamorous, then you are obviously a violent person already. Others will be turned off by that whole world." And those who know the score will also be turned off by the crass, deplorable and long-discredited inaccuracies about the Hillsborough disaster in the north west programme. After interviewing Danny, I watched a rough cut which included the following voice-over lines: "...hundreds of fans without tickets had stormed the terraces" and "this horrific event forced the government to act- hooliganism had to be stamped out" Ticketless fans storming the terraces? Hooliganism? Hopefully the programme-makers will replace these lies with the truth, ahead of the broadcast date.... I know this programme is only going out on cable, but I think we need to make people aware of what they are going to put on air, as a lot of people will again believe the lies told by this country's media. I have already sent an email to bravo at enquiries@bravo.co.uk pointing out how wrong this would be if they put these 'facts' on air. Just thought I'd bring it to people's attention so that they get quite a few emails regarding this, as we fight as 1 for the lives of the 96.
  18. heard the architects have completed the drawings ready for formal tenders from contractors and it's full speed ahead working on the 3D drawings for interiors of the corporate suites etc so it seems someone is pressing the accelerator.
  19. thought Iniesta was superb against Milan.
  20. couple of nice snippets ... Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has admitted that he would love to call on the talents of Liverpool star Steven Gerrard. The Samba stars are favourites to defend their World Cup crown in Germany this summer, with Parreira having an embarrassment of riches at his disposal. The defensive talents of Roberto Carlos and Lucio, midfield flair of Juninho and Kaka and attacking instincts of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Adriano would turn many coaches green with envy, but Parreira feels Sven Goran Eriksson has a gem of his own. Parreira was asked to give his opinions on which foreign stars he would like to have in his team and Gerrard figures among them. "Andrei Shevchenko of Milan is a wonderful striker who can do so many things inside the box, while centre back Alessandro Nesta is among the best in the world, but of the English squad, Gerrard is a wonderful midfield player. He can really play." ----- French legend Michel Platini has labelled Brazil the "big favourites" to win the 2006 World Cup. The former Juventus superstar considers the Seleção have the finest team in the world, and believes that only they can beat themselves. "It's wonderful to see Brazil like this, not just because they have five or six phenomenal forwards but because their right-back also knows how to play football," he said. When asked who he thought would win the FIFA Golden Ball, awarded to the tournament's best player, he responded; "For me, it's between Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Steven Gerrard."
  21. you judge a manager on both
  22. He's done ok, no more.
  23. This was how the money was split in our winning season ... How we earned our 2004-05 Champions League money The money earned by clubs in the Champions League comes from two pots ? the TV pool (with clubs from different countries earning vastly different amounts according to the size and prosperity of their TV market) and merit payments from UEFA (which are the same for all clubs irrespective of country origin). TV pool UEFA awarded the four English clubs a total of 56.78m euros as their proportion of the TV pool. This is based on the TV rights paid in that country. The English clubs get the most money in Europe (in contrast the four Italian teams got 30.12m euros). This money is awarded to the clubs according to a convoluted formula. Half of the country?s TV pool (28.39m) is distributed based on finishing positions in the qualifying domestic league season (2003-04 in this case). 1st Arsenal 40% (11.36m) 2nd Chelsea 30% (8.52m) 3rd Manchester United 15% (4.26m) 4th Liverpool 15% (4.26m) The other 28.39m from the TV pool is distributed in direct proportion to the number of games played by each club.as a % of the total number of games played by English clubs (group stage and subsequent knock out games only). 41 games were played by English clubs. Liverpool 13 games (9.00m) Chelsea 12 games (8.31m) Arsenal 8 games (5.54m) Manchester United 8 games (5.54m) Thus the overall amounts earned by each club from the TV pool: Arsenal 11.36+5.54=16.90m Chelsea 8.52+8.31=16.83m Liverpool 4.26+9.00=13.26m Man Utd 4.26+5.54=9.80m UEFA merit payments UEFA award payments to each of the 32 clubs according to their performance in the Champions League according to the following formula: Starting Fee for qualifying 1.62m Match Fees for completing 6 group games 1.95m Group Stage Performance Bonus 1.14m This is based on 0.325m for each win and 0.162m for each draw, Liverpool winning three and drawing 1 of the 6 group games. Last 16 bonus 1.62m Quarter final bonus 1.95m Semi final bonus 2.60m Final bonus 3.90m Winner?s bonus 2.59m Total merit payments for Liverpool = 17.37m Adding this to the 13.26m from the TV pool: Total earned by Liverpool in the Champions League = 30.63m euros ------- so worth about £2.5m (4m euros) plus the £0.5m for finishing one place higher in the league.
