He's not been right (physically) since his first hamstring injuries in 2000/1 ish. I remember seeing him 'warm up' for virtually the whole first half of one game at Anfield just to come on for part of the 2nd half. Never been the same since, and I can't see the upside to be honest - even if he is free, any wages you might as well give to me, as he won't play. So why bother?

Just heard on the radio over here (Toronto) that George Gillette has agreed in principal to selling the Montreal Canadienes to the Molson brothrs offer. Story was that it's in the region of $500M, and will be announced officially later today/tomorrow. Pretty amazed by that, as he really comes across that he is a big fan, or maybe that's why he's selling to the molson brothers (also big fans).

I had no idea that a professional footballer would ever have a brochure to sell him. Pretty amazing, and smacks a little of desperation that they should even need to do that (like addressing the press issues). Bizarre state of events.

Is he really that good? I only remember ever seeing him in brief sub appearances. And he's only a youngster too right?

Not a bad comparison that IMHO. I actually saw James in his last game at Watford before he joined us (had a mate who was a steward there who got tickets), and remember thinking 'why the hype'...he was all over the map, and continued that way with us. Physically great, but seemed to struggle with decision making and concentration as you mention about Johnson. Although James has got better with age - at 38 he's now much more consistent I find it interesting how Johnson has almost polarised opinions on here. I still think it's a lorra lorra money for a RB (even if he is attacking), but coming round to the view that a couple of quality additions put us over the top so to speak. We have a quality squad and after all, we only lost the Prem by 4 points including a number of 0-0 draws, so a couple of Johnson goals could have won it !!!

I have just read all the stuff about Johnson and I'm really really struggling with it. Unless I have missed something, have we gone mental?? We paid about 5/6M for Agger. 6M for Skrtel. 17M for Masch. 21M for Torres (all these may be wrong, but in the ballpark?). And now we're going to pay 18.5M for a RIGHT BACK. Even if he were a 20 goal scoring right back who was captain of Brazil I think I'd be struggling with it. I like Johnson, and he could be a good addition. But at 18.5M....Insanity.

Gillette has got people looking at all of his sporting assets - The Canadiens (I live in Canada) are not just a business, they're a religion, and he's handled them pretty well over here, and really improved their business (sadly not so much on the playing side). The Molson family I think owned the team in the past and still own 20%, so looks like they're wanting to take back the team, in case Gillette does go into selling mode. I'd actually be surprised if he does sell having seen him a few times, as he loves them. And not quite sure what if any effect this has on us.
