Interview from Sky http://bcove.me/q9jfrvvj I was made up when he got the job. All I was hoping for was to steady the ship and point us in the right direction. Here we are a month later and we're starting threads about possibly getting 4th and it not being a laughable suggestion despite the fact we've just flogged Torres The way he;s handled himself in the media and with his team and staff selections is astonishing. What an utter legend
One of the H&G ideas was to have the corporate hospitality below ground with lifts up to regular seats for the game. Seems sensible - even though it was those t***s that suggested it
Think the key here is that you could build the Anny Road "curve" whilst the existing stadium is intact. You only link into it once its finished Your increase in capacity there (bigger stand and filled in corners) would partly mitigate the loss in capacity whilst the Kop is being rebuilt.
Isn't the Anfield Road the key to this? Does it definitely have to stay there - it's not like it's a major thoroughfare or anything is it? If it wasn't there, you could basically shift everything 30-40 metres in the direction of the Anny Road stand. You could 1) Build a new U-shaped stand on the other side of Anny Road, behind the existing stand 2) Knock down the existing Anny Road stand once the new one is finished 3) Move the pitch back and link the existing Centenary and Main stands into the Anny Road "curve" 4) Build a new Kop starting where the new pitch is, extending back to where it currently finishes - hugely increasing the capacity. Hard to describe - but I think you'd end up with the Anny Road end further back than it is now & done as a "curve" so it blends into the Main and Cenny and then a massive Kop at the other end as a separate stand. Kind of like the Charlton picture but with a massive Kop where the open end is.
This was exactly why I said we shouldn't renew The Greek's contract - we've got 2 up and coming players who'd kill for his 4th CB spot and cost us next to f*** all. Baring disasters your 4th CB only gets used when you want him (like Carling Cup, dead Europa Cup & bottom of the table games)
There's a time when you've got to let the experienced players go to give the young players their chance. Wilson held his own in the CL for Rangers - you've got to give him his chance or he's just going to stagnate.
I don't He's been a bloody good player for what we paid for him, both another year of him at 4th choice CB is another year that Wilson and Ayala are kept further away from the first team. Long term that's not productive
Mad theory - the new formation was tried today more with the Chelsea game in mind and to counter Torres knowing our tactics. Negates some of his inside info if the formation has changed dramatically
I was talking about the players you named. Still if you reckon those figures are realistic can you send me some of what you put in your pipe 'cos it's obviously good s***
Agree that we;re in a much better position to make self-funded purchases now - would be great to rebuild the team without having to rely on big investment. Tompkins quotes the interest payments at £36.5M here http://tomkinstimes.com/2010/05/the-liverpool-investment-conundrum/ Bear in mind though that even though we don't have to pay these any more our income stream is greatly reduced through not being in the CL. Anyone have any idea how much that is?
