Or 13m a season over six years. Over the past three that's 40m, which matches the outlay over that time. The average since they took over is the same as before, albeit with all the spending in the first season. Just saying.

Yes that seems reasonable. I've just checked the previous season though, and that registers an outlay of GBP 40,000,000. Gillet and Hicks might make the Gordon Brown defense- that money from a regular budget has been shifted forward. Mascherano and Torres were the big outlays then; its possible he is just waiting for the right players to become available.

He was involved in the goal. If we want a scapegoat Gerrard is the obvious choice. To make that challenge on Rio-Coker, who isn't the most deadly player, and who was covered, and just after we'd scored, was wilfully idiotic.

We are readjusting to the new system, but I don't think that is the biggest problem. A lack of concentration and focus, and Gerrard/Torres not playing well are the major problems. Even with that we were the better team today, and would have won it more often than not. I see I'm too late to anoint Aquilani as saviour, but he does seem perfect for these sort of games. Someone in Lucas' position who can play long balls and do the technical stuff around the box would certainly help.

Torres is off the boil. This half has been almost identical to the first. Good 15/20 minutes followed by a lull.

Not sure we should change the system around. We have been creating plenty of chances. We just need the concentration to make it count. Riera is the obvious sub, almost certainly for Yossi, in 13 mins or so.
