Can and Origi are more critical than Coutinho. We can always use Firmino or Lallana as the left sided forward.

He doesn't want to lead the line making runs in behind, he wants a free role to go where he likes.

Alonso and Mascherano were a good CM pairing but its not the only blueprint out there.

I'm not sure what level the bar is being set at here but if Valencia has proven his worth at RB then Lucas has at CB.

Its worth noting that despite spending vast sums Utd are currently playing a right-mid at right-back and a centre-mid at centre-back.

Lucas at CB and Milner at LB too presumably.

I'm assuming the plan is to play Can, Henderson and WIjnaldum together. In Brendan-speak that could be a 1-2 or a 2-1.

I'm not that fussed about losing the player - he is very up and down - but I would have thought we would need to bolster the cover at the back. Otherwise, we are very exposed to Lovren getting injured (and he's picked up a few injuries while he has been here) as we don't know if Matip will live up to his billing and cope with the physicality of English football.

If we don't bring anyone in then Origi needs to get a lot more game time and we have to hope he delivers on his potential.

Still think we need a striker, especially now that Beneke has gone. Neither Sturridge nor Firmino convince.

Given his main LB target appears to have been a teenager with only 8 Championship appearances under his belt, it shouldn't be surprising that he rates Moreno higher than most commentators do.

That's a big shout when you think of the likes of Adams, Pallister, Stam, Campbell, Terry, Cavalho, Ferdinand, Vidic etc

There was definite improvement last season between the two cup finals.

He doesn't look like a fullback.

If we are going to play a midfield three then you have to assume it will be Can, Henderson and Wijnaldum as first picks. We then have Gruijic, Lucas and Lallana in reserve. (Personally I'm not sure about Lallana in a midfield three but judging by today's line-up Klopp obviously thinks otherwise.) Perhaps the midfield three was a function of Can not being available and we will revert to a midfield two when he is available. Time will tell.

He's not Alonso but I reckon Can will be able to offer that.

I praise him when I think it's due.

Whether we need another centre-mid depends on how often Klopp expects us to play with a midfield three like we did today.

Thought he got through a lot of work today as the deepest of the midfield three. He didn't always get that much help from Lallana and Wijnaldum either. Battling display all in all.
