Thought Makelele was poor myself. Looked his age (33). Xabi ruled the midfield in the first half. In the second half Momo came into his own and was breaking up Chelsea attacks left, right and centre.

I honestly can't see how Neal was a better or more important player than Souness. Granted Neal was at the club for a few more seasons and was usually the penalty-taker but all our play went through Souness when we were at our very peak (late 70's / early 80's).

Whelan is one of my favourites too but you can't take Keegan out.

I guess the problem is that there's so many to choose from. I'd certainly put ahead Whelan ahead of the likes of Lee, McMahon and Molby though. That's as good a selection as any.
