  1. He is a fine player but I thought today he was giving the ball away and getting muscled out of possession - most unlike him.
  2. Thought Makelele was poor myself. Looked his age (33). Xabi ruled the midfield in the first half. In the second half Momo came into his own and was breaking up Chelsea attacks left, right and centre.
  3. I honestly can't see how Neal was a better or more important player than Souness. Granted Neal was at the club for a few more seasons and was usually the penalty-taker but all our play went through Souness when we were at our very peak (late 70's / early 80's).
  4. Whelan is one of my favourites too but you can't take Keegan out.
  5. I guess the problem is that there's so many to choose from. I'd certainly put ahead Whelan ahead of the likes of Lee, McMahon and Molby though. That's as good a selection as any.
  6. I agree. You could probably draw a parallel with Phil Neville and Nicky Butt when they were at Utd.
  7. Carra and Traore were culpable for the all-important first goal IIRC.
  8. I agree. As with Josemi, I want him sold so that even the option of playing him is removed.
  9. Votes for Alan Kennedy I find a little odd.
  10. Whilst he's definitely less wasteful with possession in the final third than someone like Garcia, I'm not convinced that he quite has the vision on the ball to play off the striker on a permanent basis.
  11. Perhaps Gray can now stop bleating on about how Gerrard should be playing CM.
  12. It was the most dramatic final, for sure. However, was the quality of football better than in (say) the 94 final between Milan and Barcelona?
  13. Admittedly, I haven't been watching too closely but I didn't think Ronaldo's form had been all that this season.
  14. I don't see Souness and Bellamy as being particularly comparable.
  15. I'd be happy for Utd to sign a spoiler to sit in front of the back four. I'd more worried if they signed someone like Carrick for that role.
  16. He beat Le Beouf during the build-up to Senegal's goal.
  17. This place just isn't the same without spider-neil.
  18. Beckham still trying to break America..... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beckham wants to end career in US England captain David Beckham says he would like to end his career playing in Major League Soccer in the US. Beckham, who still has one year to run on his contract at Real Madrid, wants to spend three more seasons in Spain and perhaps move to America in 2009. "At some stage, playing in America is possible," said the 30-year-old, who recently opened football academies in his native London and also Los Angeles. "For me, America's so passionate and I'd like to be a part of that." Beckham's three-year stay at Real has yet to yield any significant silverware, but the former Manchester United star could be on the verge of signing a new deal at the Bernabeu. "I've one year left at Real, and maybe two more after that, but things can change in football and the American league does interest me," added Beckham in an interview with ESPN. "I want to be part of a country that is passionate about sport. I've got my academy in LA which is important to me because that is my life after the game. "America for me is one of the most passionate places. There is an incredible feeling around the country. "I always mention when I'm asked about America about how you can walk down the street and everyone has got the stars and stripes flying in front of their house." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/4898130.stm
  19. That caught my eye too.
  20. That's a bold statement. He'd have him ahead of Owen.
  21. It was a hallmark of our transfer policy under Shankly and Paisley that a player's character was examined as closely as his technical ability. I wouldn't touch Bellamy with a barge-pole.
  22. It only works against the weakest opposition.
  23. I'd give Sami 7 for dealing so well with Davies but apart from that those are about right. Maybe a 6 for Garcia who was lively when he came on?
  24. Keegan on his return with Hamburg?
  25. Its not that rare these days (e.g. Owen, McManaman, Souness etc).
