the point of it was to keep the players fresh, so that whatever had emerged as our best XI could play week-in, week-out during the run-in this happened, and was the reason for our strong finish trouble was that we lacked match-winners and inventiveness during the middle part of the season (as you say, the likes of Ronaldo make all the difference there; they can drag you through a poor spell so you keep picking up points)

it was more his composure, and ability to move the ball quickly to the midfield and start attacks, that would have helped, I reckon
