  1. Yes we are missing Alonso somewhat. But I think there's also an element of overconfidence in the rest of the players. After the tail end of last season, the players believe that they can score at least 4 or 5 goals in every game easily. The loss to Spurs should have been the kick in the butt to the team that goals do not come if you don't work for it. Unfortunately the Stoke game ruined the lesson and it's back to the belief that 4-0 wins are a walk in the park. Maybe a hard won 1-0 win against Stoke would have made the lads realise that it will be a difficult season regardless of the opponent and that their heads would have to be in it for every game.
  2. Sami will never leave Liverpool FC. That's because no matter where he goes, he's already in the books as a Liverpool legend. 50 years down the road, future LFC fans will be looking back at the greatest defenders of LFC, and Hyppia will be among the top of the list.
  3. The Mancs are in the running to make their record 18 League titles and 4 Euro titles. It would gall me if they do. Of course they would still need 1 more cup to equal our Euro record but they could very well equal our League championship record if they win the Premiership this season. That's why it's so important that we get number 19 this season.
  4. Throw Carra, Masch, Alonso, Reina and Kuyt in the same pod. Funny how most of the media keeps saying that Liverpool has only 2 world class players compared to the Mancs and even Chelsea.
  5. I'm devastated. I wouldn't be too upset if we were on paper 4 points ahead on top of the Premiership because then I could look ahead in confidence to number 19 at long last. But the fact is, that we are not on top of the League. And expecting the Mancs to drop 4 points in the final stretch of the season (and assuming that we win all our remaining matches) seems even more insurmountable than thrashing Chelsea by 3 goals in the reverse next week. It's quite likely that the Champion's League could be our only hope of silverware this season and as such it's devastating that we have practically put ourselves out of contention. Of course there's always hope on both fronts but we have seen too many false dawns in the past 2 decades.
  6. I think this international break is bad. It interrupts the winning roll that we are on. It also gives the Mancs an opportunity to take a breath and get their act together.
  7. What will the name of the new stadium be? Will it still be Anfield? Somehow a sign with the words "This is Stanley Park" does not seem that frightening to opposing players.
  8. Well, once we go on our winning run, the dodgy rumours will disappear as usual.
  9. Wonder what the NRA has to say about this. They'll probably say that this shows how important it is for the right to bear arms. If those kids were each carrying a firearm to school, they would have been able to defend themselves.
  10. He looks like a young Boris Becker with long hair.
  11. Pongo and Le Tallec. When we first got them I'm sure we were all excited and felt that they were the future stars of the Kop. At least I did. Strange how things turn out.
  12. Sadly there's trouble in Turkey. Don't know whether it will affect our CL game with Galatasaray.
  13. If Arsenal win the CL would that mean they automatically qualify for next seasons comp? Does that also mean that even if we finish 2nd in the Premiership, we would be moved down to 3rd place because Arsenal are defending champs?
  14. Michael signs for Newcastle. Long threads of posts condemning the Board, Rafa, for poor management in not getting him If Michael signed for us. Probably long threads of posts condemning the Board, Rafa for poor management....spending a lot of money for a player we sold off cheap, who left us in the lurch, who wants to come back because he worries about his England place more than he cares about the club etc. etc .etc It's funny. I think the big legacy of the Houllier era is that it has created in us fans a high tendency to moan and complain about our team, board, management. It almost seems like if we don't have anything to rant and moan about, our fan-lives become empty. So here we are, just 2 games into the season and we have started off with bang with our enmity against the management team of the club. Just like with Ged's term, this is going to fester and grow and will spill over into the matches. I foresee our home and away support getting quieter and quieter. And the debates heated on the Forums. I just pray our lads go on a long winning streak (and I mean winning by more that 2 goals with our strikers scoring at least one of those goals). That's the only way to stop this downward spiral of disatisfaction.
  15. I don't think we are "trying hard" to sign Owen. He's trying hard to get us to sign him. If we were trying hard, then he would have been with us already.
