As far as I know Arbeloa can also play CB but never done it for us. Sami is an excellent cover for Carragger. Few teams are as lucky having an experienced central defender as backup. Right now I would have Arbeloa over Heinze any day although I admit to having far less knowledge of Heinze as a lot people on here claim to have. With his current form I reckon Alvaro can't be far away from a spot on the national side. Can anyone enlighten me of who plays in the fullbacks positions for Spain right now?
Don't think Cisse or Speedy were good enough, simply. They probably wouldn't have done better in ManU or Chelsea. As for Morientes, a bit of mystery for most of us. Not sure it was Rafa's fault. Both Sir Blur and Mourinho have made bad signings so nothing unique there. In one way you could say Rafa got less out of his players because we ended quite a bit behind them in the last two seasons. That is to say our team would be almost a good as them. IMO we haven't had a good enough team to match them so far. But they have also underperformed which is to say Rafa might not have got the best out of the squad. If it's down to his man-management I have no clue but I don't think so.
No Paddy? Fine by me by the way. My heart will always stop when he lays the ball over to the wicked left foot of his. Guess Carew and Petrov are decent players on their day but can't say I'm shivering on the sight of that XI
partly true but as I said we are playing without that midfield stopper (ei Momo and Javier). Can't even remember the last time Xabi and Gerrard played there together the last time (anyone?). Also Fernando is a lot more creative than any other forward we've had in the last 5 years or more.
I don't mind seeing Riise there. Better to ease the new boys in than throw them all in. Torres is a given of course. If Pennant can build on his late season form we can cause a lot of trouble. Even though I'm a big fan of both Masch and Momo, I'm excited to see Stevie and Xabi as the central mid pair again. And may I be the first one to say: BRING ON NO 19!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And once more just to make sure every one gets it Pepe Reina Alvaro Arbeloa Jamie Carragher Daniel Agger Steve Finnan John Arne Riise Steven Gerrard Xabi Alonso Jermaine Pennant Dirk Kuyt Fernando Torres Subs: Charles Itandje Sami Hyypia Andriy Voronin Ryan Babel Momo Sissoko
and here goes: Rafael Benitez's first team selection of the season is as follows: Pepe Reina Alvaro Arbeloa Jamie Carragher Daniel Agger Steve Finnan John Arne Riise Steven Gerrard Xabi Alonso Jermaine Pennant Dirk Kuyt Fernando Torres Subs: Charles Itandje Sami Hyypia Andriy Voronin Ryan Babel Momo Sissoko
I doubt any club would want to put their games (bar friendlies) on their own channel when they can sell it for $$$$$$$$$$$$ to another TV-network. Great news about eurosport though!!!
