I agree with the opening post. I think the key aspect was that Kuyt was really on his mettle right from the word go and had a visible reassurance on all the other outfield players who seemed to use Kuyt's preformance in those very tough opening 15 minutes as their inspiration. By the end of the game there were at least half a dozen men of the matches. The difference was Kuyt's was over the full 90. The rest tended to grow into their performances. Despite all that the main thing was the entire team proved to themselves - and us - that both individually and collectively they can be more than a match for the current Premier and European champions. Happy days. Very happy days. What a buzz to see us enjoying our football so much, every man desperate for the ball. Gorgeous.

I think you're right. It's the rear entrance of Jury's Inn. I recognise that sick patch on the floor.

Which young player will make an impact for us and why?

I'd just love to see how he would manage to translate his obvious talent onto a stage more suited to it. If he has got that extra class - which I do suspect to be the case - then he could be one hell of an asset to us. Even in the immediate future. As for a loan. I agree about the level of team but I'm more bothered about securing a loan arrangement that suits LFC and the player rather than the club he's loaned to. So I'd like to see it far more flexible. 3 month perhaps. Or one in which Rafa can call him back. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard ro arrange. -

Local youngster. Sublime footballing gifts that only ever happen along every now and then [and to think we've got 3 of them]. Possible future Red great under right guidance. So why the feck would any self-respecting mad Red need to be related to a prospect with this guy's rare talent to be excited? As it happens he is from my neck of the woods but I'm equally enthralled by the talents of Nemeth and Pacheco so whilst it would be great - and important too - to see another local lad make the grade with LFC, any local association doesn't come into it. BTW - if you were merely being inquisitive and not sardonic then I apologise in advance for the indignance in my response. If, of course, your question was tinged with cynicism then kindly feck off. -

Hammill has signed a new 3 year deal - thank feck for that. A renewed show of faith on both sides I guess. Amazing what two wonder goals can do. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...080718-1054.htm -

D'you reckon that ref has a doll figure of Nemeth back home which he sticks pins in? Don't think I've ever seen such blatant discrimination by a ref against one player before. Made the Mascherano/police ref [can't recall his name] thing look benign. That said what a joy Nemeth is to watch on a football pitch. A marvellous natural style that screams top top quality for years to come. With him, Hammill and Pacheco I'd say we've got the finest collection of promising young naturally gifted footballers we've ever had. Fowler and later Owen and Stevie G went on to prove themselves, of course. If these three do anything approaching the same we'll be drooling for years to come if only for the sheer class they exude. Forgive my over-excited anticipation. All three are just so feckin good to watch tho. -

It'd be nice to think so but I've not heard anything. -

Incidentally Ernie I know those links to Hammill's highlights didn't work. I've found one since on you Tube with just the two goals we're discussing against Southport. If you haven't seen them already then enjoy. http://youtube.com/watch?v=yoOZB6tzqv8 -

I think you've answered your own question there Ernie. I must say I still think there's something lurking in the background - but maybe it is as simple as when he was on loan he was out of sight out of mind. Rafa will have sat up when he saw those two goals. It doesn't matter who they were against. A football man such as Rafa will take everything into account but at any level the skills required to execute those two finishes do not come around very often. Rafa curereently has them on a football tree at the bottom of his garden. What he does with them - and what Hammill himself does with them - will be very interesting to see. -

Returning to the matter of our potential future attacking greats and the local one in particular I've copied a post from Rawk on this subject where some do seem to think there are problems with the lad's attitude which seems to have contributed to his minimal impact at Southampton following on from contrasting quite commendable impact at Dunfermline. :- Good to see some debate about Hammill. There is certainly something of the enigma surrounding the lad and I'd like to know what the score is about where he figures in LFC's future. One thing we do now know for sure. With those two wondrous pieces of footballing sublimity [albeit only against the Sandgrounders] the lad himself couldn't have slapped down the gauntlet more clearly in the face of those at the club who don't appear to - shall we say - cherish him as dearly as he appears to think they should. So what now? Well Rafa - for sure - and Sammy Lee will have been blown out of their seats by the video of those goals. Rafa's scouts scour the f***in universe for snippets like those of exceptional ability and here they are presented on their own doorstep with yet another [for there have been many such instances including a half way line effort of more natural aplomb and assuredness than Xabi's and Beckhams and a killer goal against Celtic for Dunfermline] example of this young man's exceptional footballing gifts. Anyone who has followed Hammill's progress will know of his talents. Two great feet, powerful shooting with either, goes both ways with natural ease, outstanding dribbling skills, fancy tricks, as fine a passer as anyone at the club, reasonable overall pace though not explosive yet a great disguised change of pace. The conundrum would seem to be why when blessed with all this natural ability and being a local lad with LFC emblazoned on his heart is he not the darling of the club and its staff? Someone mentioned the Paul Anderson analogy and there is certainly a parallel to be drawn there. Yet with Anderson there is no mystery as to why he is being loaned out year upon year. Anderson for all his promise is not kissed by the gods with Hammill's footballing gifts. I don't pretend to know why the club doesn't appear to be embracing the huge natural talent in their midst. Maybe there is a real downside to the glimpses of divine play we see on these videos. Maybe his character is not in tune with what they want at LFC - I know Heighway and Rick Parry were/are not exactly lovers of the renegade type of characters. Maybe what they're doing is seeing if the wrinkles smooth themselves out. Whatever the truth of the matter may happen to be Hammill, for his part, has certainly put the ball firmly in LFC's court. And the fans will need some explanations if this particular talent does not achieve its potential at LFC. -

These are the ones I saw Ernie. Some reviews and video links of Hammill. The first are the Southport goals I think though just clicking on them now they don't seem to be working - so not sure how to correct that on here. https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...80713-1650.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...70425-1002.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...61129-2244.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...61121-1610.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...61117-1041.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...60406-1351.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...50926-1705.htm https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/arch...50926-1705.htm http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FxGuQUpvupQ : in Scotland https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/squad/hammill/ https://www.liverpoolfc.tv/estc2/pre...6&clip_id=3041 -

Let's forget it huh? I am crazy. I just don't like being called it. So I got a bit huffy. The main thing is I think we both know now what I really meant which was that we have three outstanding attacking prospects in Hammill, Pacheco and Nemeth and let's hope they blossom into the real deal. -

Agree on both counts. There's also the "acclimatisation" factor which seems to . mcManaman was a great example of this aspect of a young player needing time to wean himself to the standard needed for the very top level football. For his first season or so MacManaman could be really outstanding against lesser midfields/defences beating them at will yet simply could not seem to reproduce the same form against more capable opposition. Once he acclimatised, however, he could do it against any opposition becoming our main source of attack for a season or so. Probably it's the ball carriers who are most in need of this acclimatising. -

Possibly most impressive was that the first was a right sided dribble finished with a wicked 20 yard right footed curler. Whilst the second was a 50 yard mainly left sided run/dribble finished with a left foot placement. -

Read the feckin post before you call someone you don't know crazy. Understand its sentiments before applying your pedantry. I said I'd pay good money to see them against a lower ranking Prem defence. I never suggested making them a regular front line. Like Rafa is going to bring all three in at once. Bonehead. All three players are simply terrific prospects in a purist attacking sense and I'd love to see them. -

I get the impression there's a possible question against Hammill's attitude amongst the heirarchy. He's certainly blessed with immense two-footed talent. He's even scored an Alonso half way line goal which was just as assured in its execution as Xabi's. He does not possess killer pace but does have a decent change of pace and he has dribbling ability in spades and real determination to win out in 50/50's. Most impressive is that he seems to possess that vital instinct for knowing that the object of the exercise is for the ball to end up in the opposition onion bag either via a team-mate or himself. Something you can't really teach - eh jermaine? This is backed by his ability to deliver an accurate pass short or long and above all his ability to poke in regular supply of 30 yarders into the net with seemingly effortless aplomb. So why are these gifts not being cherished and nurtured a bit more? Maybe they feel he needs these spells away to ground him a bit more. I just hope it doesn't dispirit him too much as it does seem if anything will let him down it's his ability to deal with feeling under-appreciated. I mean he must clearly know his pure natural ability is above most else on the upcoming horizon. -

If those two goals by Seaforth's answer to Matt Le Tissier don't make Rafa and Sammy Lee spit out their corn flakes then they're clearly picking the wrong cereal. Okay, so it's only Southport. But the lad's talent shines through loud and clear. You don't score goals of that quality certainly with the regularity of Hammill without it. Right now I'd pay good money to see an attacking line up of Nemeth, Pacheco and Hammill against most of the lower placed Premier defences. In a few more years who knows which defences their trickery could unhinge? -
Not only fantastic but the catalyst for the invinciblity that followed. It was Keegan's sparkle that catapulted us to the level where we remained for the best part of the ensuing two decades. Anyone who watched us prior to Keegan, during Keegan and post Keegan knows that. Also this media driven myth that Keegan's best football was played when he left us. Complete b******s as anyone who witnessed him week in week out for us will know. If he'd have been playing for Man U prior to Hamburg at the same level as he played for us he'd have been Euro player of the year every year from 1972-1977.
-
You can't have seen him much then. Certainly one of the most consistent reserve performers. Personally, I don't think he's quite got the game to make it at the level we need in midfield...but can certainly envisage him making right back his own position for many years to come if given that role by the coaching staff.

I may be wrong but I'd guess the intention is to gather some weight of support before any official approach.

Not sure if this is the right place for this appeal. But seems like a measly effort by reds fans so far. Hopefully posting here might increase the signature count and help get Billy his just desserts for being our greatest ever footballer along with Kenny. Never ever let us forget a true Liverpool legend,Billy Liddell deserves a statue in his hometown, please sign this petition, only a 130 ish sigs so far,not nearly enough for this great man http://www.dunfermlinepress.com/petition

Can't disagree with that. At the time he quit Kenny was receiving professional medical help to deal with his Hillsborough traumas [that is factual btw]. The drop in standard of his managerial ability AS LFC MANAGER was clearly only a temporary one. Yet at the time the club chose the option of a permanent replacement which we can now see in hindsight was not the wisest choice to say the least. Ironically, the same principal of an extended sabbatical could have been applied to Houllier who I'm sure was psychologically way below the norm following his own return after illness. Perhaps the club's insistence on a further sabbatical might have spared us all the agonies of GH's last years. I guess the extraordinary mental pressures on poor old Rafa - Parry and Hicks antagonism, lack of discernible support from the scouse heart of the dressing room - may well now be affecting his judgement as we have all been seeing. The same club trait of being blind to the manager's mental sufferings could well be said to have applied at the time of Shanks who was clearly fretful about his decision to retire scarcely 9 months after making it. If there is a lesson to be learned from all this then I'm f%%ckd if I know what it is.

Hmmm, perhaps... but it's the fact he's done very little right that actually gets me. Also perhaps he could learn how to head a ball. Oh and jump. Yeah, that could well help just a tad. Or maybe we could simply play in full England kit and we might see some droplets of sweat on his brow. Now there's an idea.
