  1. we might be prepared for him to leave but only on our terms and if they aren't met he goes nowhere. So it might take right up to the end of the window if Chelsea aren't prepared to offer what we'd find acceptable.
  2. not looking good is it? still finding it hard to accept its Chelsea he goes to of all clubs. Something must have been seriously bothering him to do this, although to dump it on the new owners and new manager isn't fair and i think we all thought he was better that that. Im still hopeful that we'll stand firm about not letting him go this window and who knows what might happen in the summer, at least it gives us time to plan without him. One consolation if he does go will be seeing his face when Chelsea inevitably get knocked out of the CL!!
  3. Im sure if the manager thinks that might happen he won't be allowed to leave. He has to do what's best for the team not what's best for Torres, although they might come to the conclusion that the team is better off without him if he doesn't want to be here whether we have a replacement or not.
  4. The new owners are clearly cautious types their not going to make big decisions without thinking things through carefully, the major mistakes were not made by them, the fact that Hodgson got the job in the first place was criminal, as was the failure to invest in the team when there was money available from player sales, none of that is the owners fault. Could they have acted quicker over Hodgson probably, but its a big decision to change a manager that quickly after hes been appointed, personally id much rather have this type of owner than ones that are going to make knee jerk decisions all the time.
  5. Tony Evans was convinced he was going yesterday evening.
  6. yeah thats what i meant, Drogba's been such a key player in their success if your replacing him with Torres your getting a younger player but overall theres no guarantee Torres will do as good a job as he's done for them so overall their team isn't any stronger to what its been this season which is not that great. Alternatively they might try and play them together which might work although throughout their careers both have struggled in a 4-4-2 with an out and out striker as a partner.
  7. So overall their no better off really if their replacing Drogba with Torres except they get a younger player.
  8. it doesn't take long though for a team to start going backwards it can happen very quickly especially when you have so many players around the same age. Terry just isn't the same player as hes been and hes such a key player for them the same goes for Lampard who has gone from never getting injured to picking up niggling injuries all the time. Drogba is in his 30's and i just don't see how him and Torres can play in the same team. I think he'd regret signing for them pretty quickly unless they plan to spend massively in the summer.
  9. the heartbreaking bit is it looks like he's gonna sign for Chelsea so we'll have to watch him every week. I really don't understand why he seems to have his heart set on joining them, if he went to Barcelona or even Inter i think most fans would accept it easier, but joining another english team is just a massive slap in the face. I reckon it won't take him long to realise he might have made a mistake if this does happen and i will get some satisfaction watching him get knocked out of the CL with Chelsea which will inevitably happen because whatever he might say about leaving to win the big trophies they aren't gonna win the CL and they aren't gonna win the PL this season and without massive spending their a team in decline.
  10. think there's too much to sort out in just a few days for this to happen now, all the quotes from the club are we don't want to sell, so unless we get an amazing offer in the next 2 days i don't see what changes so much that this will happen. So what if Torres wants to leave?? we don't have to bend over and do what he wants if it doesn't suit us. tell him we'll let him go in the summer, that gives us time to plan without him, gives us time for other clubs to maybe become interested and drive his price up and it gives us time for him to maybe change his mind.

    New Start

odds on this turning into a formation thread???
  12. Anelka on loan until the end of the season might be one solution given if this happens it gives us no time to find a replacement, but long term we should be looking for the new Torres not a player in his 30's. We need young hungry players that are going to blossom here, not overpaid ageing players that lack motivation or start sulking when things aren't going well.
  13. if chelsea are going all out for the CL this season if we stop it happening in the next 3 days will they still want him?? plus theres a chance they won't qualify for CL next season if Spurs get their act together. Their recent form is still very poor.
  14. its alright Camolli's told him who's gonna replace Torres!!
  15. maybe Barce can sell another training ground??
  16. shame thats hes gonna go to a club that will also have to rebuild. These a decent chance Drogba will be gone because neither Torres or Drogba plays well with a partner. I could understand it if he wanted to go to Barcelona but Chelsea have been terrible this season and have to replace at least half their first team in the next couple of years.
  17. If we're gonna play hardball over this its very difficult to see how it can be sorted in 3 days. There's no reason for us to just bend over for him and let him leave, the big money will be there for him in the summer. If he wants to sulk for the next few months thats up to him, but to be honest apart from a few games thats what hes been doing anyway.
  18. it is possible the new owners have analysed what he brings to the team looked at the amount of money he's earning and how much we could sell him for and concluded we're not getting value for money from him. Certainly for the last few months he's hardly justified being in the first team and its only because we don't have any other recognised striker that we haven't been able to drop him because apart from a handful of games his form has been poor but his attitude on the pitch has been even worse. The NESV people look like the type that will make these types of tough calls if they think its best for the team, its hard to take as a fan because we know what Torres can do but if we've identified 2 or 3 players we can bring in what that type of money then the fans will soon move on if the team is stronger for it.
  19. as one of the rumours said earlier we could get Anelka maybe on loan until the end of the season as part of any deal. Probably means Drogba's off too cos we all know Torres can't play with another main striker (neither can Drogba) if they sign Torres but lose Drogba i don't think that makes them much stronger.
  20. tough if he doesn't play until the end of the season so be it but there's no way a deal should be rushed through just because Torres wants it that way. Unless we get the price we want for him he stays if he's gonna sulk he stays and plays with the reserves. In the summer im sure there'd be plenty of interested party's and we could get the right price for us.
  21. Think there's obviously some truth in it, but that doesn't mean we just have to roll over and give Torres the move he wants. There's 3 days left in the window he's contracted until 2013 if we don't get a deal that suits us then it doesn't happen, its irrelevant what the player wants.
  22. even if that's the case why do it halfway through the season, wait until the summer and give the manager time to plan properly without him.
  23. At least we have Kenny in charge if he does go it won't be on the cheap, imagine if RH was still here!! There's no reason for us to make this easy for him if it is true, leaving now leaves us up s*** creek mid season at least in the summer it gives us time to plan without him and there's the chance he might change his mind if he sees enough improvements in the summer. With a transfer of this size with the team of the player not wanting to sell i don't see how it can be sorted in 3 days, look how long its taken to sort Suarez out. Unless Chelsea came in with a massive offer and maybe we got someone like Anelka until the end of the season its going to be very difficult to sort out the details and agree a fee in a few days.
  24. If he really does want out, at least do it at the end of the season to give the manager time to replace him and make plans without him, doing this 3 days before the end of the window just stinks and seems out of character if true. There's no reason why we should just bend over and let him get this move in the next 3 days because it leaves us in the lurch if it is true he's done nothing to deserve that loyalty from us and unless we got a massive fee we don't have to sell him. Chelsea aren't even sure to make the CL next season and they do look like a club on the decline, if they signed Torres id place a pretty big wager that it'd mean Drogba would be gone because theres no way those 2 could play together so im not sure it makes them any stronger if they got Torres by lost Drogba. The whole thing just doesn't make sense unless he's been offered a massive wage increase but its still disappointing if there's any truth in this which there obviously is.
  25. its possible we have someone lined up should this happen, still find it difficult to believe this can be sorted out in a few days especially if we don't want to sell him. Tony Evans seemed pretty sure it would happen in this window which would mean he'd be playing against us in a few weeks which just doesn't bear thinking about really. Still hard to believe Torres would do this so close to the end of the window and the timing just doesn't seem right. I understand if he's been disappointed by broken promises from the previous owners and i understand why he got frustrated under RH, but we now have new owners and this is the first window they've had and we've broken our transfer record, and we have Kenny in charge who by all accounts Fernando idolises so the timing just doesn't make sense. But if he wants to leave he should go and we should make sure we get maximum value for him so we can rebuild the team.
