  1. wouldnt surprise me if this does happen its part of the deal that he wont play against us.
  2. At least Alonso went to Spain what makes it so much worse is we're gonna have to watch him play for another team in this league. The thought of him celebrating a goal with Terry and Cole and Drogba makes me sick.
  3. If that's true it still leaves them with a massive wage bill and under the new financial fair play rules that has to be carefully managed.
  4. Think this is what we'd all like to ask him. If he's fed up and wants to go somewhere where he thinks he has a better chance of winning something fair enough, but why did he leave it until 3 days before the end of the window to put in the transfer request?? to make it even worse if part of his problem was he didn't think we were signing enough quality players he waits until the day where we break our transfer record and sign someone!! the timing seems to have been left to maximise the impact it will have on our season (in a negative way) and that's unforgivable.
  5. Think we need to be looking for the next Torres not someone in their late 20's whose motivation is questionable. Get players with the potential to become world class who have the motivation and desire to play for us. Someone like Andy Carroll i think would be a decent signing, hes young but its pretty obvious hes going to score goals wherever he plays, the only question mark over him is the off the field stuff, but in terms of what he'd offer a football team i think it'd be a pretty low risk signing although he'd probably cost £30million maybe more given they rejected £25million from Spurs. But there are other players that fit this criteria, Suarez was one of them.
  6. don't know, but i was told today we'd bid for him again so maybe. Probably more likely next season given what Ged said last week, but in the summer he enters the final year of his contract so unless they want to lose him on a bosman im guessing they'll be looking to sell him in the summer.
  7. Ive heard it from so many people from here and from Villa also from other teams that enquired but were told hes coming here. That might have changed with Kenny as manager but i doubt it.
  8. Young's contract is running down, Torres' isn't. Id rather wait and get him on the cheap, Villa will have to sell him in the summer anyway cos they can't afford to let him go on a bosman.
  9. £30 million??? no chance. His contract is running down and ive heard so many rumours from here and from Villa that the player wants to come here, if we got him in January we'd probably pay a few million more than he'd cost just to get it done sooner but no way will it be near £30 million.
  10. probably but its a lot of money for a club that's trying to run itself properly and if the wages he's gonna earn are correct we're talking about over £20 million over the course of a 4 year contract. Whose to say £50 million is our selling price?? maybe we want more. Just because the rumours are its £50 million doesn't make it so.
  11. can't wait to watch Chelsea get knocked out of the CL!! no way they're gonna win it this season whether they sign Torres or not.
  12. still dependent on chelsea (or anyone else) offering us an amount thats acceptable.
  13. gonna be interesting to hear his side of things and also what Kenny has to say, its still really confusing why its Chelsea he wants to sign for. Although i guess the new big fat contract might explain things.
  14. id heard comolli was in spain today...
  15. ok but hes waited until now to hand in the transfer request. im sure we did know this was a strong possibility and hopefully that means we had contingencies in case it happened.
  16. there's absolutely no reason for us to make this easy for Torres or Chelsea, we don't owe him anything after the way hes dropped us in it with 3 days of the window left!!
  17. that would probably be my stance too, but its the managers decision whether or not he thinks he can get him to keep playing for the team if he stayed if he didn't think he could and he might be able to use that money in this window (even if its not for a direct replacement) then that's his call. there's also the question of how the crowd would react if he stayed knowing he'd probably be off in the summer.
  18. i understand that but rather than rush something now if we have to wait until the summer and make do with Kuyt to get the right player its not the end of the world. This season is virtually a right off anyway, im still of the school of thought that if we don't have the replacement we want lined up then we should hold firm but we might be able to do deals for other attacking players that aren't forwards in this window with some of the Torres money. If we added more of an attacking threat from those wide positions it might make up somewhat the loss of someone as good as Torres.
  19. thats them safe then!
  20. If Kuyt was supported by Suarez, Gerrard, Young and Meireles its not that bad at least he'll work harder than Torres has been and his goal record as a forward isn't terrible.
  21. might have to make do with Kuyt and N'gog until the end of the season.
  22. heard we've upped our bid for Ashley Young, normally that'd be goodish news (depending on whether you rate him or not) but given the twitter that was posted before all this broke its probably bad news re Torres.
  23. Carragher??
  24. don't think kenny's gonna be pushed around if a deal is done it'll be one that kenny's "happy" with.
  25. if that clause is in his contract then we can't really expect more, might get more for him by asking for money and players.
