Youve got me wrong mate Torres loves the club and wants to stay, whereas Masch has been wanting away for over a year. I'm not saying we should f*** him off, we're a far better team for having him in the side, but if he WANTS to leave and we are in a position to get £30M or so for him to rebuild the squad with then its good business. Weve got pretty good cover there now IMO, it would be far far worse to lose torres or gerrard who are indispensible as we wouldnt be able to replace them with anyone near as good with the limited money Roy has to spend.

He can, but he gives away a f*** load of fouls to go with it, particularly in defensive areas where he doesnt always need to make a challenge. I didnt mean he cant tackle so dont get me wrong on that one.

Pace isnt a prerequisite for that position, Alonso was slow, so are Pirlo and Gattuso, Makalele was too. What they all have is good technique and passing ability, and an excellent reading of the game. Masch may be quick, but his passing is s***. he offers little going forward and he cant time a tackle and so consistently gives away free kicks in defensive areas (something Lucas is also terrible for doing). If we can get £25M + for Masch and bring in a player like Poulson for the reported fee then thats good business.

Can see Kuyt getting in ahead of Maxi tbh, like the idea of Gerrar next to Aqualani in midfield though, somone to give Aqua a b******ing and keep him on his game.

With a new manager and a bunch of new signings / sales it's impossible to judge either players impact on the team. I'm talking in terms of overall ability as a player, and for me Alonso is the more complete of the two.

Alonso's vision and passing ability puts him way above Masch for me. I won't be gutted at all if he leaves for the right price.

His wife was reportedly having trouble settling in Merseyside.
