Nah, at times the gulf in class was huge. They probably won't win the league, but they have fantastic ability which Wenger has made the Arsenal hallmark now with a number of teams. A left winger is a must, but not a stop gap. So, who is there? i can't think of one, not many big name deals are done in january and it is pointless gambling on a prospect halfway through the season. Please, no one say Stuart Downing. The best left sided player in the league is right footed and lays for England, surely SG could do that for us?

Even if we lose I still think we will challenge. Rafa can't right his wrongs in one game, but it will focus the mind toward the rest of the season early enough to rescue it. If it doesn't, he can have no complaints.

Gerrard is on his day the best midfielder in the world. Playing him on the flank loses the driving part of his game and that is the part that makes him great. Players like Ronaldinho and Zidane played wide without shackles, we don't have the team to play a midfielder out wide with no defensive duties. To play at his best, he would be fantastic with a free role loosely playing at left midfield cutting in onto his right foot with a quality left back providing an overlap. However, as soon as he had an average game the media and fans would slaughter Rafa for playing him out of position and not on his favoured foot. Gerrard would be fantastic in Spain for a big club.

It's not rafas job to sell newspapers, he speaks to them and then they make up the headlines to sell a story. They would make up the headline regardless of how honest you perceive he is being. It's a shame he can't just tell them to f*** off.

It's insulting to rafa to suggest he is going the same way as GH. I have every confidence that he will get it right, some of the threads on this forum today have been a joke. There is not a manager in the world I could honestly say i would like to see in Rafas shoes right now, he will make the required alterations and we will challenge for the title this season.

Kewell and Aurelio are too injury prone for anyone to risk given them every last chance. We need to replace these players asap instead of hoping for the best. That we haven't already iscosting us dear this season on the left flank.

Alonso isn't at his best making forward runs, he was at his best when he first came here making the play from central midfield not because he was joining the attack. Both Alonso and Torres have cited Gerrard as the best player they have played with, they wouldn't have been forced to say this. If we sold him for say £25M, who is the player coming in to replace him that is definitely going to improve us?

I think Arsenal, Chelsea and ManU would take SG in a heartbeat and be a better team for having him. If we can't utilise his talents then maybe he is best off somewhere else, we won't be though.
