Yes that's the only plausible explanation The difference between Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea and the equivalent standard of the players for us is in the head I think. Those c**** walk around the pitch like they own it, like they're 10ft tall and world player of the year. They're cocky, arrogant c**** who have incredible belief in their own ability and of the team-mates around them. I don't see that in any of our players except Gerrard and Carra. Maybe Babel is showing a bit of youthful arrogance and that's it. Our team is too passive, too happy to be stuck in the niche of being labelled as underdogs.

I didn't think Anderson was all that to be honest. He got into a couple of advanced positions in the first half but that's it. Hargreaves had an excellent game I thought and mopped up most things that came his way. Gerrard must've been told to play deeper and more cautious than normal - we sure as hell weren't getting pinned back by their midfield so what else could it be?. When it's like that and we're set up as a bog standard 442 then a lot has to come from the wide men and full backs pushing us forward but offensively, all four of them were as ineffective as they possibly could've been.

Why do we have such a poor record against the big sides?
Guz replied to RafaShanks's topic in Liverpool FC
I wonder about the mentality of some of our squad playing against the top sides when we're not the underdog. Every excellent result in Europe, under Rafa, has seen us as underdogs. People even thought Leverkusen would knock us out but we battered them because we had nothing to lose. Last year, everyone wrote us off against Barca and then after we lost at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the semi. Even the wins Rafa has got against Arsenal and Chelsea, we've been looked upon and played like underdogs, scrapping for a win. When it comes to the Mancs or Chelsea, recently Arsenal away; too many of our players are too passive, don't believe in their ability enough and just arent big enough c****. -
Defensively I thought he was pretty good today. I fail to believe he played so deep because he couldn't get past Anderson, he must've been told to seriously considering his runs carefuly because he was doing a lot of defensive work.

Hope we play a strong team and beat the f*****s

I thought he and Masch did ok but Stevie was far too deep and had too much defensive work to do. -
I thought Gerrard did ok to be honest. He and Mascherano were both ok but Stevie played far, far too deep. He had too much to do defensivley and seemed to be on orders not to forage forward too much. Couple of free kicks (indirect) were decent also. Add to that Benayoun and Kewell being totally ineffective we created absolutely nothing.

Or we're talking about 90 minutes where basic pass and move football seemed to go out the window today and we once again failed to really be a constant threat to the goalkeeper of a top side. At least last year Bellamy tore Vidic a new one even if nothing came of his constant harassment. It's not just that we lost today. We were pretty s***. Of course it's not totally over but 10 (lets say 7) points off with away trips to the four teams above us is hardly the best position to be in.

If we dick Chelsea and then the blues**** over two legs to go to Wembley and lift the trophy I couldn't care less what people think about our prestige or status

The way we've gone on about him since his injury you'd think Alonso plays about 3000 short passes every game and none of them go astray. He's much better at keeping the ball and dictating the pace of a game but he's very much inclined to his own hollywood balls every game too. And his set pieces are equally s****. I can't fathom why Gerrard played so deep today, I can only think it was out of instruction because he was forced to track a runner in Rooney or Tevez on more than one occasion and there were lots of moments when it looked like we could get an attack going yet both Mascherano and Gerrard were near the half way line with neither really pushing forward. The saddest thing is after 3 years and a bit our back four still cannot resist the temptation of launching an aimless ball forward at our forwards.

About time we put these c**** to the sword and sent them packing with a f***ing good hiding. Or a 1-0 Ferdinand OG will do as well. f***ING COME ON REDMEN

Same. Got a 3 hour exam tommorow morning and been trying to work hard for that but it's difficult as the game gets closer. Can't wait.

I tuned in just in time to see Jamie's missed at the end from the cross. Anfield will go beserk if he manages to score on Sunday though.

Sometimes. A lot of the time it was just getting the ball away and trying to regain shape. But when you're 2-0 up away from home in a must win game in Europe then it doesn't matter, and I'm not saying it did. I dont think we were going to approach the game any differently and we did everything we needed to and more. All I'm saying is in terms of it being some of the best, fluent football we've played - it wasn't. It didn't need to be.
-
In no way was that anywhere near the best football we can play. At times we were sloppy and intent on hoofing the ball away rather than getting it down and keep it for long periods of the game. But that's all it needed after a few minutes. We didn't need to be fancy, we just needed to work hard and close them down quickly and deny them space. We did that and got some extra goals too - job done. It was a thoroughly professional, ruthless job and away from Europe rarely do you go all guns blazing.

The funniest thing about Torres' goal is how one of the defenders sticks his hand up appealing for offside or something as soon as he gets skinned. "Sir, Sir...he's not allowed to do that is he?"
-
Excellent team. Would've liked to see Arebloa at LB and Finnan at RB but who cares. f***ING COME ON REDS

Neither Voronin or Sissoko travelled did they?
-
He doesn't really say much to be honest. Certainly not enough to be bothering to get worked up about. Rafa has to prove he is capable of challenging for the league. No two ways about it really. Toshack hasnt said he thinks Rafa will fail.
-
Benayoun to score anytime at 11/2 is the most tempting. I think he'll start (thats based on not much at all to be fair though)
-
The players won't let us or the manager down tonight.
-
Is that what happened? Just thought the 4th official was being an idiot.
-
Actually the opposite I think. I think Lucas and Kewell will play prominent roles tommorow and against the manc b******s on sunday. Both are excellent in posession and that'll be key against Marseille and the Mancs

Personally I think our defending this year has been below par. I know the stats suggest otherwise but we haven't looked as comfortable as we normally do.
