  1. Liverpool linked with River Plate striker Apologies if old hat but it's the first time I've heard this one.
  2. We had money earmarked for Alves and didn't spend it. We've also just sold Traore for £2 Million. I don't think a reasonable bid is beyond the realms of possibility.
  3. Benitez has been saying all along he wants the players to be able to adapt to any formation, previously we didn't have the wingers for the 4-5-1/4-3-3 that he seemed to prefer at Valencia.
  4. That wouldn't just be Bascombe toeing the party line as usual would it?
  5. He's just on trial isn't he?

    New kit

I'd agree with that although you'd have to keep the Shankly Gate.
  7. This content is not viewable to guests.
  8. Did anyone ever see that article Bernard Ingham wrote in the express about Hillsborough? My allfella had a heated exchange of letters with him about that. It's as bad as the Scum to my mind, wouldn't wipe my a*** with it.
  9. No Garcia? Thought he'd have booked his seat with that hat trick.
  10. I'm unconvinced. That was when the new stadium was expected to cost £80 Million, the price has now doubled. Regarding the benefits of all the new facilities, I'm still unconvinced - for example I can't imagine a hotel in anfield being a big success.
  11. If the estimated cost is now double the original, the figures just don't stack up. I reckon we'd be better off levelling Anny Road to the edge of the park, building a big new stand with all the facilities and a multi storey car park on the Vernon Sangster site. Once that's done we could look at redeveloping the Main Stand. The new stadium has 'Wembley Style Disaster' written all over it.
  12. I'd agree with that actually, better at left back.
  13. I'm certain he's got a release clause but surely even Newcastle aren't stupid enough to allow one that's substantially less than they paid for him. I'd be very surprised if it was less than £15 Million.
  14. Probably have but I think they'll go for more established players. I reckon Torres is a possibility but Atletico will want big money. He looked great last season but hasn't hit that sort of form this term.
  15. I don't think we'll be in for Owen either, can't see Newcastle letting him go and certainly not for any less than they paid for him.

    Djibril Cisseee!

Sorry but I fail to see anything in Cisse that makes me think he's got immense ability - as a sprinter maybe but not a footballer and certainly not at Premiership standard. His lack of intelligence as a footballer amazes me, stories that filter back from Melwood back that up. Undoubtedly the poorest player we've spent big money on ever.
  17. You have a point but one which drives the price down. Anelka must know now that if he gets a chance at a club like Liverpool and c***s it up it'll be his last. I'd go for a five million punt on Anelka before splashing out ten million plus on Defoe, Kuyt or Andy Johnston.
  18. I say again - he never wanted to leave and didn't want to play for City. Granted he had his issues when he was younger but he didn't want to leave Liverpool. He's scored goals wherever he's been and we looked like a different side with him in the team instead of Heskey. Someone made a point about having to look for someone better than Anelka - there's not many about and we'll be hard pressed to sign the likes of Henry or Schevchenko because for me if you're talking about better than Anelka you're talking about that calibre of player. I'd take Anelka over anyone bar Owen that we're in with a cat in hells chance of signing. Anelka would score a hatful in our side.
  19. In a heartbeat.
  20. I have nothing other than admiration for Anelka after what he said when Everton tried to sign him.
  21. Don't see any problems with Anelka, he never wanted to leave, was great whenever he played, drops hints like bricks about coming back at every given opportunity, proven in the Premiership. I'd have him back tomorrow. I'm not so sure - are the Glazers going to be bothered who they sell him to and at 29 I doubt the fee will be that big?
  22. Hypothetical question: If Van Nistelrooy were available on the cheap, which I hear is highly likely, would you take him? To be honest I don't hate him that much as far as Mancs go and you can't deny he's a great striker - his horse features make him more of a figure or mirth as far as I'm concerned. Another name I'd put into the hat would be Anelka who I'd take over the majority of names mentioned in this thread.

    Harry Kewell

I presume that was the video clip doing the rounds when we first went after him. Does anyone else know any more?
  24. We could do a lot worse than Marlon Harewood, been very impressed with him this season.
