  1. only if it means we get torres... AM| want to sign him
  2. Isn't it just a little too convenient for Gillet to be in the Europe for a golf tournament, just as we need someone to sign some cheques? Am I just adding 1+1 and getting the result I want which is Torres, Mancini and Benayoun, with little luis on his way to Athletico, Cisse finally sold, and Bellamy on his way to Rangers (couldn't resist)... wishful thinking of course, but there has to be more to Gillet being this side of the pond as la liga comes to a close BTW, personally I'd like to have Mr. Snakeoil by my side rather than Parry if I'm negotiating for top end players.
  3. chelsea pay agents an awful lot of money and they are owned by an 'alleged' gangster... of course they know which teams are in the market.
  4. http://www.fcbarcelonablog.com/fcbarcelona...wn_on_eto_o_bid this guy seems adamant that we did make an offer for E'to and it was rejected... not the actions of a manager without financial clout... and how much have all these contract extensions cost?
  5. Is there anything more tedious than a Scouser? The most obnoxious city in Europe is also the most smug, self-congratulatory and paranoid - actually, it's a bit like Cork with even more annoying accents. He attacks both my home town and the home of my team in the same article. The independent is full of smug g*******s that will cling to any passing bandwagon in the hope that they can increase sales.
  6. It was Spurs that were in for him.
  7. Did he really get a 10 year deal?
  8. It's funny no that many forumites believe that xfer values have come as a shock to G&H. They obviously do not pay close attention to American sport. In a nutshell, the top earners in American Football earn considerably more than Kaka, Ronaldinho, et al. The only footballer on the planet that will come close to the kind of money spent on top end Pro American Footballers is David Beckham, but of course he is his own marketing vehicle, and no longer a player that we can evaluate within the same guidelines as a Gerrard or an Eto.
  9. Good attacking midfielders, ala Garcia, Kewell, in a good season should be able to contribute 8-10 goals and a reasonable number of assists. Pennant scored one goal last season. He's got ALOT to do, and much to improve. Problem with him is that he plays well in a game and it goes to his head. He has a huge amount to prove including his price tag. He's got alot of talent, but needs to produce alot more end product, and start by adding humility to his game.
  10. He is worth 18 million pounds. The guy is awesome, and could be the fulcrum of our team for the next 10 years. Last year he was being quoted in the 20-30 million pound bracket and I would even argue that over the next 10 years he will prove himself to be a world class player that belongs in this price bracket! Dare I say it but he reminds me of Roy Keane, maybe a bit more defensive, but very similar, and probably with greater potential. Whiskey nose was well pissed off when we signed him.... so that alone was worth an extra couple of million.
  11. Tevez actually reminds me a little of Rooney... strong, combative, good burst of pace, good close control, ability to bring others into the game, can drop deep while remaining a threat, goals from both inside and outside the box, scores goals but not a poacher. Not sure who is better. Media handling of Rooney kind of makes it difficult to decide, but Tevez is a wonderful player.
  12. If we had had a class left sided mid on Wednesday we would have won.
  13. shouldn't this be in the general football forum?
  14. Theres nothing defensive about a side containing Alonso and Mascherano providing we have a top quality left winger, gerrard on the right and 2 forwards, thats plenty of attacking threat. The key as always is to have top quality in those attacking positions. Width can be provided by the full backs pushing up. United also rely on neville supplying good crosses into the box, which Aurelio is more than capable of matching from the other wing. Pity this guy is made of glass, because once he started to show form, our style of play was so much more positive. Evra also supports the attack in ala Ashley Cole (Arsenal days,) and Roberto Carlos in his prime. Alves is a fantastic option, but his value is now extremely high. I have the feeling one of Momo and Xabi will go, but I believe it will be Mo... there is room for a large profit on a player that has suffered from two tough injuries. Interesting that Rafa has been trying to play him as an attacking mid, when it is clear he is well suited to the role of destroyer. Momo could command a fee as high as 15 million, which would pay for a quality attacking mid.
  15. To be honest, I just hope we get the players Rafa wants... whether or not they are the players we are all dreaming about.
  16. Let's not be bitter. We won a game we controlled (mostly). My feeling right now is that to come so close to winning will serve us better in the long run. Just think back to 2001 when we won the treble by beating Arsenal in Cardiff. 12 months later Arsenal had evolved into an incredible team, while we slowly went into decline. So give Milan their due and pay them respect as Champions of Europe... but we will be back.
  17. excellent article... one or two... seems some things are pretty advance, I'm guessing Tevez and Simao. Parry out in the next fortnight?
  18. If we wait we will be chasing the players who are second and third on our list. We need to change the structure of the club on and off the pitch." Anyone else agree this is a reference to Parry? Is David Dein available by chance for a new position
  19. Thanks mate... what a player!
  20. Surely this article is libellous! What an a******!!!!!!! Just how BITTER can one p***k be?
  21. My take on this is that we are seeing an evloution in Xabi's game. Before he played as a fulcrum for starting and breaking up attacks. He does not have the pace and athleticism of Gerrard or Essien and uses positional sense to make up for that. He has been in and out of form, but when in form what we see is a player now willing to use more of the pitch. His tackling has improved immeasurably and he is a far better defender than when he arrived. His passing sometimes does seem a little off, but a good pass includes two things, the source of the pass being aware of a player in space, and the player in space taking up the correct position to receive the pass. When little luis or kewell play, and when stevie plays on the right, those passes look as if they are guided by laser. Pass the ball to Gonzales or Pennant, and at times it seems as if the pass was absolutely hopeless. It is about generating an understanding. We would be mad to let Xabi leave as his best years are ahead of him. Xabi does need to go up a level to arrive at the level of Pirlo, but he has the ability to get there. Xabil and Masch should be able to mirror Gattuso and Pirlo in the years to come, with Gerrard playing in a more advanced role ala Kaka. BTW, Fabergas is also a benchwarmer for the Spanish team, so this is no barometer as the Spanish team is full of quality in this area.
  22. Juventus know it will take £15M to land Liverpool's Sissoko tribalfooball.com - May 16, 2007 I know it's tribal bs but what do you guys think of 15 million... would we let mo go for this amount?
  23. Does he fear Gerrard through the middle? Is he trying the old reverse psychology? All this talk of Ronaldo and Kaka, and questioning who is the best player in the world will surely inspire Stevie to show them who's really boss. He's had a quiet season by his standards (a great season by the standards of lesser mortals). I have a feeling this could yet again be the 'Steven Gerrard' final.
  24. According to Mr. Lewis, the worst hack at the Mirror, and the most pro-united one... the claim that united would use Heinze's frienship with Tevez as a hook to catch their prey was funny beyond belief, as the same paper reckons Heinze will be off at the end of the season.
  25. seems to have the lot, pace, vision, passing range, eye for goal... if only he could do stepovers
