Would have taken 4th at the start of the season. Now? No way! We are a very good side, with a bit of luck, a few inspired signings and our mad Uruguayan we might just do this. Regardless what happens in the next 2 games we are in this. All these teams have to come to anfield in the 2nd half of the season. -
Woot! We just secured one of the top 3 players in the world to the club. This is a great boost going into the Christmas run of games, and takes all the transfer window speculation away. Well played by the club!

Barnes Rush Beardsley McMahon Fowler Rob Jones - remember Souness plucking him from crewe and then him marking Giggs out of the game at Old Trafford shortly after...may even have been his debut.....but for injuries he'd be mentioned as one of the best right backs ever for me.

coutinho sturridge mignolet - wouldn't have been here due to his shaky start but for the penalty save. He came good when it mattered though and 2 points were earned by the keeper!

Mignolet may well be a great keeper. He does however have it all to prove. He has 3 seasons in the premier league and hasn't played for a team that every mistake he makes will be scrutinised to the nth degree - until now! He looks good, but how he handles the pressure of replacing Pepe is a gamble. Not sure I agree on replacing Pepe, but you have to back the manager and his choice. Best of luck to Pepe and Rafa for the season... Not like we will be playing them this year anyway!

Don't disagree to some extent, but he needs to be able to pick the players for the first team. He clearly had no time for Carroll, and rightly sent him out. Same should apply to any of the first team squad for me. Obviously he can't do it in a vacuum, but final decision rests on his shoulders. If it doesn't, he could just nott play the signing and we are wasting money again.

Personally I want the manager to make the final decision on who to buy or who to sell. He's the one that loses his job if it all goes wrong. A little simplistic view on how it all works, but he should be able to veto any decision that is to the detriment of his team within the boundaries he and those above him have agreed to.

Not everyone was as much of a team player as Dirk is hardly a dig at anyone. Perhaps just a clumsy way of emphasising the character of Dirk if anything.
