He doesn't need the pace, skill or guile to take on an opposition left-back. Currently that's what Gerrard, Kewell, Garcia, Cisse et al are for - in the future I expect a class right midfielder/winger to take a lot of that responsibility. I expect Finnan to move forward to give those players options, sometimes to overlap, sometimes to ping a ball into the middle. Most of all I don't expect him to get caught out of position when the opposition break. He does that far better than most of the right backs in the league. Don't forget, Finnan is primarily there to stop danger coming in from his side. He does a bloody good job of that in my opinion. It's no coincidence that most of the danger in our defence comes down our weak left side. He's calm, he's reliable and he doesn't make many mistakes and was easily one of our top 3 players last season. As for Kronkamp, if he's good enough to displace Finnan on a permanent basis then he's got to be some player in my opinion. The boss sees something in him, so that'll do for me. Looking forward to seeing the lad come in and do well though.
