And 3 paragraphs of quotes from a random 59 year old from Winchester absolving the police. He’s more quoted in the article than anyone else. “He said: “You could tell the police there weren’t happy and were asking each other who was letting the cars through. There were probably 20 let through by the time we left and it was sectioned off so badly they were practically driving into the crowds. “Police on the ground were doing their best, I don’t fault them at all, but it was clear it wasn’t under control. I’m not sure at one point, at the planning stage, if there was a breakdown in communication, but there were cars going where they weren’t supposed to be. “There were people having to move their feet so the wheels didn’t go over them and people with buggies just having to stand in front of them to get between them and the cars. The drivers looked scared stiff as well, they didn’t want to be there. It wasn’t the fault of the police there, but it was like a free-for-all.””

They’re shielding themselves from culpability whilst taking all the plaudits for their belated response. If there were no bizzies near the Town Hall and they’d left enforcement of the road closure to volunteers, it’s squarely on the police that he got in. They have it all on cctv, so they ought to show media how the car entered and who was supervising the barrier. Can’t be reiterated enough as we know full well they’ll try to get away without accountability. Here we go. Although seems framed to place responsibility on the council rather than the police tbh.

We’re c**** aren’t we, on the whole.

Hard to tell if this solo effort by Roger Taylor was pro or anti-Nazi tbh.

No police on approach to the busiest and most vulnerable part of the route? If not then that’s an organisational failure and still their responsibility.

Police have been reiterating claim that the Ford Galaxy was able to enter an exclusion zone simply by tailgating the ambulance for over 24 hours now. It doesn’t explain how and why the vehicle was allowed to continue into Water St any more than it did yesterday but has now become burned into the “facts” of the incident through repetition. Someone f***ed up, and need to take responsibility.

It’s ace and I won’t hear a word against it. Other clubs don’t understand why it is so Liverpool.
-
There’s a video knocking around comparing them. Eerily similar.

Good article by Si Hughes asking many of the same questions. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6371956/2025/05/27/liverpool-parade-car-collision-title/

I thought he’d at least remain in football.
-
And yet he was allowed to drive straight into Water St. Someone either made the call to let him or they weren’t present to stop him. Ambulance story doesn’t explain why and feels like damage limitation to me. I mean, heaven forbid that we of all people might doubt the police when it comes to these kind of situations.
-
No suggestion he was actually out watching the parade is there?
-
Yeah I don’t buy the tailgating ambulance line coming from the bizzies now. Doesn’t explain why he wasn’t stopped. If anything adds to air of negligence.
-
Being treated as attempted murder.
-
Hopefully they release the cctv of that today. But makes no difference really; the police still should’ve stopped him as he wasn’t driving an ambulance. Did cross my mind unfortunately.
-
Not tighter restrictions. Actual police enforcing the exclusion zone at its most dangerous and vulnerable bottleneck.
-
Sounds like Rotherham is gently pointing toward a policing failure.
-
And the primary location along the route. The biggest concentration of people.
-
Eyewitness told BBC that driver just had to manoeuvre around a road closed sign at entrance to Water Street. No barrier. Where were police?
-
Were it not for the Water St incident there would be a lot more noise about transport failures today. Lime Street was a very dangerous situation for hours.
-
Yes, when properly organised and enforced (by the police) it can be done.
-
And who is responsible for that messaging being loud and clear? The car should not have been able to drive on that closed road at that time. Who else is responsible for it being allowed to if not the police?
