  1. This figure the media are obseesed with of 93 or whatever it is now games in a row without the same team being picked is a load of horses*** First of all, in those 93 games you can be guaranteed that he picked the same team for the 56th game as he did the for the 54th and maybe the 50th. In other words the same team probably played in 30 of those games and maybe that team with one or two changes played in another 40. During those games there would've been League cup, matches, early round FA cup games, champions league games and end of season games where squad playeres got a run. I dunno if they include friendlies in that. We also had an injury crisis the season before last. So, yeah Rafa chops and changes a bit but get over it FFS Rafas rotation is the new zonal marking as far as the media are concerned when it comes to us

  5. Just started it yesterday, and so far so good. Opens with a poignant chapter about how his family suffered tragedy at Hillsborough, and how it affected him. Puts his drive and passion on the field into perspective.

  14. You and me both. And he was more elegant than a player of his power had the right to be. So good, in fact that he was considered too good a footballer to play centre half and spent a large number of games at centre midfield for Ireland
  15. According to Alan Hansen half the premiership has that, it's almost his catchphrase now
  16. As the person who started the thread I have to declare my aganda, and say that i think he's the best all rounder I've seen, and if he continues to improve may even be regarded as our best ever. Thinking about this earlier on as well ........ Bobby Charlton is widely regarded asa the greatest ever English player. How does Gerrard compare ability wise? My opinion based on video footage I admit, is that everyting Charlton could do Gerrard can do.
  17. Totally, and I say that as someone who idolised Whelan for Liverpool and Ireland. A lot of these players compared to Stevie in this thread excelled in their preferred position, but at the risk of repeating myself didn't have the range of attributes Stevie has. if you listed the top ten abilities required from a professional footballer, then marked Stevie and the others mentioned out of ten in each department then I think he's a good bit ahead. He still hasn't reached his peak and has years left, while he's spent his career so far playing in a team that wasn't blessed with the talent and success of our sides from years back. Again, we're very lucky to have such a long list of legends.
  18. He's won a hell of a lot for a guy who could have seven or eight seasons left at the club
  19. Would Fowler in his first spell at the club not have edged lawrenson? Beardsley?
  20. A fantastic attacker who can also tackle, track back, head well, run all day, play at the back if needed no problem and still shine. I know Lawrenson played in midfield for Ireland on occasion but theres no way I'd say he had the versatility and range of skills Gerrard does. I suppose it's great that we've had so many top quality players that we can have this debate. Wonder what they talk about on Everton forums
  21. The point I was getting at was, is he the most COMPLETE footballer we've had. He seems to be able to do everything exceptionally well. Whereas Rushie was one of the greatest finishers, or Souness could dominate midfield and shoot from distance I think Stevie can literally do everything, aside from playing in goal as someone pointed out. Watching the 2005/2006 season review last night and the variety of his goals was incredible. What stood out for me was the one he scored against the Barcodes away. Burst his b****x running onto a thru ball that never came, readjusted his position for the subsequent cross, controlled the ball with the deftest header to clear a defender and immediately moved to recieve the return ball from Crouch before slotting it home in the bottom corner. Made it look effortless. How people can rate Lampard as a better footballer is beyond me
  22. We're capable of getting a draw tonight if everyone turns up and we start well. There'll be about 30,000 Irish in the ground tonight, the Germans are missing a good few players and the World Cup euphoria won't be there. Agree with the previous posts about exploiting the Granny rule, definitely need more quality then we're producing at home.
  23. ............ is the most complete footballer Liverpool have ever produced. Discuss
