  1. anyone know how many people are in the ballot and what will happen to tickets of people who qualify but choose not to go??
  2. it is a squad game these days and we need options and cover - players who recognise that they can't play 60 games a season. Dudek & Fowler do not deserve new contracts and should be moved on Benitez worked hard to get Gonzalez and would be unlikely to let him go after one stop start season. If he fails to adjust after ext season then fair enough. Zenden is a good squad player who can do a job in a variety of positions, may stay/may go will trust Rafa on this one. Crouch offers something different and works hard - can see him staying If we get someone better I would not be surprised to see Bellamy go. Carson is unlikely to want to sit and watch Reina so probably reluctantly let him go Garcia is frustrating at times but Rafa obviously rates him and he is a big game player. He offers cover across a variety of poistions and will always get games. I would be very surprised if he is allowed to leave it is all very well spending millions on fantastic new players but if we sell all our current players and the new players take time to adjust then we are back to season of transition - if we have the cash we should not leave our selves short of cover. If we seriously want to compete across all competitions we need to maintin a strong squad. Rafa doesn't have a set first 11 he will always change it depending on the opposition - there were always be games de to injury/rotation.

    Dirk Kuyt

his attitude is spot on and he doesn't vanish when he isn't scoring, he keeps trying and creates for other players. he is a good buy and has the intelligence to get better under Rafa. Occasionally he could be more ruthless in front of goal but he offers a lot to make up for that.
  5. we play Barca on the Tuesday after so surely it will be on the saturday?
  6. was a good chant of "who's the gobsh@te on the board" too after final whistle - shame that didn't start earlier!
  7. anybody know why Garcia didn't feature today? i'd be more confident with him coming off the bench to nick something against them than Zenden or Crouch. thought we didn't play too bad, players look like they need time to gel which is hurting us, i'd expect performances to continue to improve. The goal was an excellent piece of skill and apart from that the supposed best team in the country didn't really trouble us that much. Agger continues to impress and on current form should keep hyypia out of the team and Kuyt loooks a good buy. Pennant does need to work on his final ball.

    Manc Scum

given the amount of Munich and Shipman singing being done & the defacing of the ground and that pub, we have little scope for taking the moral high ground. We have morons amongst our fans just like Man Utd and Chelsea.
  9. the guy just lacks intelligence which is frustrating. He put his shirt over his head which was always going to get him a yellow card and then incites the cow which could also be a yellow card offence. Would turn a game in which we were fairly comfortable into a battle for the remaining minutes and he'd be suspended for Birmingham when we are also without Robbie. He doesn't seem to have the intelligence to play for the team. it is all about him in his head. He is just stupid and it will be a miracle if he is still wearing our shirt at the start of next season.
  10. how are Agger and Kromkamp playing?
  11. he didn't stand outside the King Harry and direct Liverpool fans to attack an ambulance - people need to take some responsibiilty for their own actions.
  12. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,291-2048302,00.html Kay posted a good article in the Times about the chants from both sets of supporters.
  13. not disputing that other clubs have moronic supporters, i'd jus lived in hope that we were a bit better. Obviously we are not. I just get a bit disapointed that we don't use our great number of supportive songs to get behind the team. Now i'm going back to my ivory tower in a world where young people help old ones across busy roads and don't mug them and ickle bunny rabbits hop around in green meadows........
  14. fair play. The good side of our fans ( the level of support/singing, the generous gestures and wit) is one of the great things about our club, but i would agree that you can't contain emotion and make it always positive. Without emotion it wouldn't be any different to beat Man Utd or Marine.
  15. does all that make it right so sing about teams injured players? I'd honestly like to know. I Personally I think it is a bit shi*t and have never sung about Munich/Shipman/Gary Neville's Mum - but i started watching the game round the time of Hillsborough and things were changing. So is it acceptable to sing about personal or club level tragedies? Should we just accept it as part of football regardless of how far it goes? Or is it's acceptability affected by dislike for the target? Are you proud of yourselves and our club when you or others sing stuff like that?
  16. Munich songs have not been acceptable by the majority at Anfield for some time. We seemed to clean up our act post-Hillsborough. For the most part at Anfield we support the team and leave the singing about other teams (except when we are playing them) and general cr@p songs ( who are ya etc ) to other teams. Now regularly i hear stuff about Chelsea having no history - which is irrelevant when you are plying someone else. There is a fine line between wit/banter and sick. If Liverpool fans want to make out they are better and be able to take offence at people singing about Hillsborough/Heysel/Michael Shields then we should skip the whole Munich/Shipman cr@p. It is not big and clever and surely can't motivate the team more than FOAR or 5 Times?
  17. usually it is a minority at Anfield and is shouted down quickly. Neville has made his own bed and although the stuff about his mum was a bit cr@ppy However singing about someone's broken leg when they are obviously in a bad way is out of order. The singing continued even when it was clear he was seriously hurt. Followed by some Are you watching Georgie Best. We would be up in arms if Blackburn fans had sung stuff about Carragher when he was injured by Neill or if a large number of fans were singing about Shankly/Paisley etc. Every club has their share of idiots, i used to hope we were better than that. Obviously we are not. We seem to be on a slippery slope to moronic fans - how long before Shipman/Muinch songs become acceptable because it is just a bit of banter and we hate them so its ok.....?
  18. Aggression is the key for me. Crouch looks like he doesn't believe he is going to get the header. He seems to lack the instinct and determination to get the goals. I never really saw him play for Southampton - how did he manage to score 16(?) goals last year??? It is just not happening for our strikers and they don't seem capable of making it happen.
  19. suppose it is all a game of opinions but i thought we looked nervous and gave the ball away a lot. We never looked like scoring and for all our possession and half chances early on once they scored it was game over. We desperatley need to be more clinical as good teams will punish us if we don't convert the few chances that come our way. I think Rafa has got it spot on against the "lesser" teams these days but against the big teams we are lacking. If we had a prolific goal scorer and could translate pressure and control into goals we'd be sorted but Rafa has bought Morientes and Crouch ( and Cisse and Fowler) and we don't look any closer to a clinical approach up front. Lot of expectation on Robbie to start scoring - quickly! We've made great strides this season, but think our defensive excellence has papered over our lack of goals and lifted our expectations.
  20. I'm fairly sure there is more wife beating than husband beating in the world and the relative sizes of men vs women makes men hitting women worthy of a serious response more than assuming that she deserved it or just wanted "her face in the papers" as some kind person posted before. we don't know what happened. I hope he is not guilty of it as i don't wish domestic abuse on anyone. He was arrested and the police deemed it serious enough to issue a cuation which he accepted. He has gone down in my estimation just as any other player accused of this would in the circumstances, his recent performances are irrelevant.

  22. journalists refering to Fat Frank as "Lamps" in match report - can't remember who does it but it does my head in.
  23. you must be bored! people are obsessed with former players when they come back for couple of reasons - players returning to former clubs have nasty knack of wanting to prove a point and often do so by scoring e.g. Fowler, Collymore, Anelka etc - the thought of what might have been - I'm sure there are people (including Fowler if you read his book) who think he would have been playing in Istanbul for us if he hadn't been forced out. Would we have scored more if we'd had little Michael Owen who will "guarantee you 20 goals a season". The manner of his departure and the false dawn of his almost return this summer have just magnified the interest. It is like people who spend years after being dumped by their partner moaning about it and how hard done by they are or crowing if their ex's new partner turns out to be a dog! When the wound is deep the healing takes a while!
  24. i wasn't impressed with how be behaved in the last two summers or with some of his comments during last season about how we would perform in Europe without him which were disrespectful to his team mates. I think all Liverpool fans were justified in taking exception to how close he was to leaving us and being a little wary that this new u turn was not just a prelude to another season of media led distraction. However I think his form this season and his obviously genuine love for the club and joy to play for us and with his team mates has more than made up for it. He is playing like a man who knows he has made the right choice.
  25. the players/media seem a bit surprised that fans don't just accept players moving on with a pat on the back and a "don't worry about it mate - its fine that you think our beloved club isn't good enough for you and you want to go somewhere else for more money/glory/england place" it is true that Owen was never cheered as much as Fowler but at the time i think the fans felt Fowler needed more support and as a cheeky scouser it was easier for fans to identify with him. With Owen he was admired and respected but didn't appear to need the same support (rightly or wrongly) he was also perceived to be an England player who played for Liverpool as opposed to the other way round. I can't help but find the whole situation mildly amusing. We don't need Owen, he is at a mediocre club while we just get better and better. Things change quickly in football but he is certainly a cautionary tale about the grass not always beeing greener....... Gerrard is the prime example of someone who after a fair bit of wavering decided to stay and looks like a man playing with joy. I doubt he could have found as much joy playing elsewhere.
