  1. Surely Newcastle can't stay within the PSR by giving Isak a new contract, which would be a huge increase on current salary and then trying to buy Etikete as well. Got to be one or the other
  2. Hard to keep very close tabs on the new manager appointment from Oz, but I've been a big Red Sox fan for a long time and Rodgers just doesn't seem like the candidate Henry would go for, nor does Martinez. Rodgers is now a 1/4 shot on betfair which looks very short. I would have thought that we will interview more than 2 candidates?

  20. So you think that the FAI turning a blind eye to clubs breaking the rules over the years wasn't a massive reason the league is a shambles. Once they ignored the problem it led to the problem becoming widespread and crippling most of the clubs. If sanctions were imposed on the original offerders then the problem wouldn't have mushroomed. As for the standard of football, it's not that bad and people who go on a regular basis or people who support teams who aren't in the premier league would realise that. Recent European results have been quite good. In my opinion it would be on a par with league 1 clubs and a lot of those clubs have very healthy attendances as people who live in the area will go and watch the team. One of the big areas the league falls down in are the facilities and media coverage. When you see brief highlights with one camera angle it's not going to look good to the average football fan and most of the stadia are conference standard. A lot of my friends who would have slagged the league off actually enjoyed it once they went to a few games. It's a hard sell when the majority of people who talk down the league don't go to games and know nothing about the league.

  23. The FAI run the league but it's not really a priority for them. They make all their money from the national team. They don't do enough to promote the league to the public. I'm not saying they are the only reason the league is in the state it's in but they are ultimately responsible for running the league and do a bad job. I don't think that opinion makes me a bufoon or part of the problem. I've been going to games every week since I was a kid and have brought friends along who still go quite regularly. Before I left Ireland I was involved with a club on a daily basis from a marketing perspective. I've had dealings with FAI reps where they've been really positive about ideas we've come up with and have given their backing only to not follow up with any action.
  24. Nice response! As I said, the FAI are a joke and if they all sat down and had to make the same decision 10 times over they'd come up with different results every time. I don't think it's particularly favouring any team. WIth the Juve game there was more public attention so they just wanted to look good. The league is on it's knees and all they care about are poxy junkets.
  25. You're having a laugh aren't you? The FAI are a joke when it comes to the league, for all teams concerned. Didn't see them bend over backwards when Milltown was sold and they've let pretty much every team cheat the system over the years, Bohs included. The whole league needs to go back to basics and realise the days of players earning 2-3k a week are gone. This won't happen unless the FAI actually grow some balls and impose sanctions on clubs who are cheating. I wouldn't be thinking about an All Ireland league until we get our own league back on track.
