dodgy1 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 3rd it is then. I just hope we can keep the others at arms length.
sutty Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Can see the mancs dropping 7 points or less out of that
Falconhoof Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 United would have to have a disastrous spell and they are coming into a good run of form so I don't think it will happen. There's an outside chance but we've already improved on last season and closed the gap so its no big deal.
Guest Kev Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Not looking at the Mancs now, I'm checking the results of Spurs, Arsenal and Bolton.
fred milne Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 Can see the mancs dropping 7 points or less out of thatOn paper they have the harder run-in (Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Bolton) but I think we've probably given ourselves too much to do.

Guest Kev Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Negative Neddie strikes again. Not being negative, being realistic.
Raj Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 3rd it is then. I just hope we can keep the others at arms length. We're on 58 points with 8 games to go. If we win 4, that would give us 70 points.Spurs have a tough run in and i dont expect them to catch us. Still to play Arsenal, Man Utd, etcArsenal are on 47 points with 9 games to go. To beat our total they would have to win 8 of these games. Thats a very tall order. We need to focus on ourselves and with our run -n, we are capable of getting points at all remaining games.
G Richards Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 There's a small chance for second. Man United could easily drop 9 points (draw at Bolton, draw with Arsenal, draw at Spurs, defeat at Chelsea). If that happened then they finish with 81 points. We need to win our 8 remaining games, then we finish with 82 points. As I say, it's unlikely, but there's still a glimmer of hope for second spot.

Woodsyla Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Not being negative, being realistic. b******s, we are two points behind Utd and 9pts ahead of Spurs and 13pts ahead of Bolton. Even if all three win their games in hand we will be 8pts behind Utd, 6 ahead of Spurs and 4 ahead of Bolton. Bolton, Spurs and Arsenal all have to play Utd so either Utd will be out of sight and we will have recoupled the game in hand and maintained our advantage, or Utd will have dropped a s*** load of points and the race for second will be on. You are being negative, 2nd is more acheivable than 5th. If we finish 4th so be it, 3rd or 4th means the same thing in terms the CL.
Gilps Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 If we finish 4th so be it, 3rd or 4th means the same thing in terms the CL. Not whilst Arsenal remain in this season's CL it doesn't. It is true that 2nd is slightly more likely than 4th at this stage though, although 3rd is likeliest outcome.

I've checked the fixtures and we wont catch Man United, there is more of a threat from the teams I've mentioned than from us towards the Mancs.

You can't have it both ways Spurs Birmingham v TottenhamTottenham v West BromNewcastle v TottenhamTottenham v Man CityEverton v TottenhamTottenham v Man UtdArsenal v TottenhamTottenham v BoltonWest Ham v Tottenham To catch us they need to gain 9pts back from one game more. Therefore they must beat at least 2of a***, Bolton, Manu Arsenal Arsenal v CharltonPortsmouth v ArsenalArsenal v Aston VillaMan Utd v ArsenalArsenal v West BromMan City v ArsenalArsenal v TottenhamSunderland v ArsenalArsenal v Wigan To catch us they need to gain 11pts from one game more. Therefore they must win all their game beating both Spurs and Utd Bolton Bolton v SunderlandMiddlesbrough v BoltonBolton v Man UtdBirmingham v BoltonLiverpool v BoltonBolton v ChelseaWest Brom v BoltonBolton v CharltonTottenham v BoltonBolton v Birmingham To catch us they need to gain 13pts with 3 games in hand. Actually, on paper, the most likely to catch us, however, the least capable of performing it IMO. Need to beat either Utd or Chelsea at home and must beat us away. Also need to beat Spurs. Any ONE of those teams above could challenge us and if they go on a remarkable run they could pip us to 3rd. If two teams were to go on a remarkable run, firstly they would take points off each other thus making it harder to catch us. Secondly they would have to take points off Man U thus making it easier for us to catch them. IMO none of the above will put a good enough run together to get near us and Utd will win against enough of these teams to stay above us. I am looking above not below if Utd slip up they have a tough run of fixtures and we could reel them in.
Guest Kev Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Woodsyla. I'm not being negative at all. Everyone has got tough games and can drop points including us. There are 27 points to play for still and Man United have got by far the easiest run in and cannot see them dropping the points needed for us to catch them.
fred milne Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 Man United have got by far the easiest run in.How do you work that out?

We will have to agree to disagree, I think Utd have a much tougher run in, they are however in a good run of form at the moment but there are places they can drop points in that lot.
Guest Kev Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 How do you work that out? By being an expert football pundit We will have to agree to disagree, I think Utd have a much tougher run in, they are however in a good run of form at the moment but there are places they can drop points in that lot. I agree they could drop points, but so could we and we can't afford to drop any. In my view we have tough games at Newcastle, against Everton, against Bolton, at Bolton, West Ham and Portsmouth. The only two games left that I am a little bit confident are WBA and Villa.
