Tech help needed..

My PC is starting to get right on my nerves and its close to getting the baton

 

Every now and again there is an internal alarm going off, it goes off mainly when I am either playing music or watching a DVD, it has also started doing it while I am working on photos.

 

I do not get an error message of any kind just the feckin alarm, if I close things is usually goes off.

 

Is there any program or web thingy I can download that may be able to pin point my problem??(no need for jokes Jonesy this is serious )

 

I have also lost the ability to burn disks

 

I cant do a Windows Update because the version of XP I got the last time is ...... eh lets just say I cant do a Windows Update.

 

Any help greatly appreciated
